Numerical Study on Oil Particle Enrichment in a Rectangular Microfluidic Channel Based on Acoustic Standing Waves

open access: yesMicromachines
This study presents a method for enriching oil-suspended particles within a rectangular microfluidic channel using acoustic standing waves. A modified Helmholtz equation is solved to establish the acoustic field model, and the equilibrium between ...

Revealing microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of Al/Cu joints during high-speed friction stir welding

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Friction stir welding provides several advantages, including relatively low welding temperature, no thermal crack, and excellent joint performance. However, due to the narrow process window, the research on the friction stir welding of aluminum and ...

Energy Renovation versus Demolition and Construction of a New Building—A Comparative Analysis of a Swedish Multi-Family Building

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
This study addresses the life cycle costs (LCC) of energy renovation, and the demolition and construction of a new building. A comparison is made between LCC optimal energy renovations of four different building types with thermal performance ...

El principio de proporcionalidad en la restauración urbanística. ¿Un caballo de Troya en la seguridad jurídica?

open access: yesRevista Vasca de Administración Pública, 2011
The importance of town-planning activity is beyond doubt about the need of the disciplinary administrative intervention. But that intervention has to be directed by the principles which rule the administrative action, among which, we specifically ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Innovative Approaches and Challenges in the Demolition of Large-Span Post-Tensioned Beams: Insights from a Case Study

open access: yesBuildings
Large-span, post-tensioned (PT) beams play a crucial role in maximizing the benefits of post-tensioning techniques. Bonded and unbonded systems are prevalent, with the latter being more widespread in the United States.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
