Donor Dilemma: A National Simulation‐Based Case Curriculum for Teaching Donor Call Decision‐Making in Infectious Diseases Trainees

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
An asynchronous donor‐call case‐based progressive disclosure curriculum was feasible and valued across diverse ID and TID training programs. ID and TID trainees reported improved confidence in their clinical reasoning and ability to evaluate donor‐suitability, supporting this educational approach to address a training gap.

Potential Way to Develop Dengue Virus Detection in Aedes Larvae as an Alternative for Dengue Active Surveillance: A Literature Review

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Infectious Disease
The burden of dengue has emerged as a serious public health issue due to its impact on morbidity, mortality, and economic burden. Existing surveillance systems are inadequate to provide the necessary data for the prompt and efficient control of dengue ...

Age‐Related and Seasonal Variation in Malaria and Other Causes of Fever and Their Association With Clinical Outcomes in Southern Angola: A Hospital‐Based Study

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Acute febrile illnesses in sub‐Saharan Africa are often attributed to malaria, yet many patients test negative for malaria parasites. The aetiology of nonmalarial fevers remains understudied. Here, we examine likely causes of febrile illnesses and their association with poor clinical outcomes in Angola.

The Comparative Effectiveness of Vector Control Approaches for Dengue: A Systematic Review and Multilevel Network Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Dengue vector control plays an important role in reducing the burden of dengue infection. Conventional meta‐analysis can only include interventions that can be directly compared. Hence, this study aimed to compare the effectiveness of all interventions for dengue vector control directly and indirectly through a multilevel Bayesian ...

Isolation of dengue virus from the upper respiratory tract of four patients with dengue fever.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2017
BackgroundDengue fever is an important arboviral disease. The clinical manifestations vary from a mild non-specific febrile syndrome to severe life-threatening illness. The virus can usually be detected in the blood during the early stages of the disease.

An international study on emerging arboviral infections and blood safety

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Emerging and re‐emerging arboviral infections are a risk to blood safety. We conducted an international survey on how blood establishments respond to current and future arbovirus threats. Study Design and Methods A questionnaire on arbovirus donor deferral strategies, pathogen reduction, and donation screening was distributed to ...

Rapid Detection and Molecular Typing of Dengue Virus by Using Multiplex-Nested-RT-PCR

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Biotechnology, 2015
world. We have evaluated the combination of one-step RT-PCR and multiplex nested PCR assays for detectingdengue viruses from clinical samples. Twelve patients were screened for the dengue virus, using a pair of primersthat conserve for several Flavivirus.

Virus‐specific alterations in placental structure and transporter expression following maternal arbovirus infection

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Arboviruses induce virus‐specific alterations in placental structure and functional markers. Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) exposure was associated with reduced syncytiotrophoblast and syncytial knot areas, increased cytotrophoblast proliferation (Ki‐67) and thyroid transporter (MCT8) expression, reduced protective (P‐gp and BCRP ...
