Bioinspired Design of a Wet‐Adhesive Cornea Glue Based on Recombinant Human Protein Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Natures protein‐based high performance materials e.g. elastin, silk and muscle proteins have been mimicked by a new protein‐hybrid material based on redesigned human partial sequences only, showing high wet‐adhesiveness and elasticity for biomedical applications.

Multiple Twinning in Nacre and Aragonite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electron backscatter diffraction map of a cluster of geologic aragonite, exhibiting single, double, and triple twins. The whole cluster is approximately 2 cm wide. Colors indicate crystal orientations, so that pixels where the a‐, b‐, and c‐axis is perpendicular to the image plane are green, red, and blue, respectively.

Microneedle‐Based Biofertilizer Delivery Improves Plant Growth Through Microbiome Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This figure shows how microneedles are used to deliver biofertilizers to enhance plant growth through microbial migration, metabolic reprogramming, and changes in plant endogenous microbiome. Abstract This study presents a microneedle‐based system for the delivery of rhizospheric biofertilizers into plant tissues to enhance growth.

Reproducibility of graph measures at the subject level using resting‐state fMRI

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, 2020
Introduction Graph metrics have been proposed as potential biomarkers for diagnosis in clinical work. However, before it can be applied in a clinical setting, their reproducibility should be evaluated.

A Non-Local Low-Rank Algorithm for Sub-Bottom Profile Sonar Image Denoising

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Due to the influence of equipment instability and surveying environment, scattering echoes and other factors, it is sometimes difficult to obtain high-quality sub-bottom profile (SBP) images by traditional denoising methods.

Blockwise SURE Shrinkage for Non-Local Means

open access: yes, 2013
In this letter, we investigate the shrinkage problem for the non-local means (NLM) image denoising. In particular, we derive the closed-form of the optimal blockwise shrinkage for NLM that minimizes the Stein's unbiased risk estimator (SURE).

Denoising Flows on Trees

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2018
We study the estimation of flows on trees, a structured generalization of isotonic regression. A tree flow is defined recursively as a positive flow value into a node that is partitioned into an outgoing flow to the children nodes, with some amount of the flow possibly leaking outside. We study the behavior of the least squares estimator for flows, and

Colossal Cryogenic Electro‐Optic Response Through Metastability in Strained BaTiO3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Utilizing the thermodynamic theory of optical properties, a colossal cryogenic electro‐optic response in BaTiO3 thin films is designed and demonstrated by stabilizing a low symmetry metastable monoclinic phase via epitaxial strain tuning with an electro‐optic response reaching ≈2516 pm V−1 at 5 K. This approach represents a new paradigm for engineering
