Meshless modelling of dynamic behaviour of glasses under intense shock loadings: application to matter ejection during high velocity impacts on thin brittle targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The purpose of this study is to present a new material model adapted to SPH modelling of dynamic behaviour of glasses under shock loadings. This model has the ability to reproduce fragmentation and densification of glasses under compression as well as ...

Effects of hot isostatic pressing temperature on casting shrinkage densification and microstructure of Ti6Al4V alloy [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2017
The Ti6Al4V alloy castings were produced by the investment casting process, and the hot isostatic pressing (HIP) was used to remove shrinkage from castings. The processing pressure and holding time for HIP were 150 MPa and 20 min, respectively.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Use of Spinning Rollers for Surface Densification of Wood

open access: yesDrvna Industrija
In this study, softwood cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani A.Rich.) and hardwood black poplar (Populus nigra L.), turned into cylinders by turning, were subjected to a surface densification process.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

A new powder encapsulation method and its implications on densification by hot isostatic pressing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Hot isostatic pressing is now an accepted material processing technique for the consolidation of metal powders to near-net-shape components. This thesis examines the use of coatings as in-situ envelopes to overcome the problems associated with ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...
