Adaptive Kernel Density Estimation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Stata Journal: Promoting communications on statistics and Stata, 2003
This insert describes the module akdensity. akdensity extends the official kdensity that estimates density functions by the kernel method. The extensions are of two types: akdensity allows the use of an “adaptive kernel” approach with varying, rather than fixed, bandwidths; and akdensity estimates pointwise variability bands around the estimated ...

A Parcellation Based Nonparametric Algorithm for Independent Component Analysis with Application to fMRI Data

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2016
Independent Component analysis (ICA) is a widely used technique for separating signals that have been mixed together. In this manuscript, we propose a novel ICA algorithm using density estimation and maximum likelihood, where the densities of the signals

Nonparametric methods for volatility density estimation

open access: yes, 2009
Stochastic volatility modelling of financial processes has become increasingly popular. The proposed models usually contain a stationary volatility process.

Estimation of the density of regression errors

open access: yes, 2006
Estimation of the density of regression errors is a fundamental issue in regression analysis and it is typically explored via a parametric approach. This article uses a nonparametric approach with the mean integrated squared error (MISE) criterion.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Adaptive Dantzig density estimation

open access: yesAnnales de l'Institut Henri Poincaré, Probabilités et Statistiques, 2011
This paper deals with the problem of density estimation. We aim at building an estimate of an unknown density as a linear combination of functions of a dictionary. Inspired by Candès and Tao's approach, we propose an $\ell_1$-minimization under an adaptive Dantzig constraint coming from sharp concentration inequalities.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Densities for Ternary System of CaCl2–H2O–CO2 at Elevated P-T: An Experimental and Modeling Approach

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Very few thermodynamic models exist for estimation of density alteration due to solution of CO2 in a pure H2O and CaCl2–H2O system. All of these models require density of CaCl2 solution to estimate density of CaCl2–H2O–CO2 system ...

Real‐Time Thermospheric Density Estimation via Two‐Line Element Data Assimilation

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2020
Inaccurate estimates of the thermospheric density are a major source of error in low Earth orbit prediction. Therefore, real‐time density estimation is required to improve orbit prediction.

Asymptotic properties and approximation of Bayesian logspline density estimators for communication-free parallel computing methods

open access: yes, 2018
In this article we perform an asymptotic analysis of Bayesian parallel density estimators which are based on logspline density estimation. The parallel estimator we introduce is in the spirit of a kernel density estimator introduced in recent studies. We
