Computer Simulation of Density-Gradient Centrifugation
1979Modern biochemical techniques are continuously refined to produce new and improved results. Improvements in the useful power of a biochemical technique can in principle be achieved in two ways. One is the classic trial-and-error approach whereby the parameters of the experimental conditions are varied one by one until a suitable set of conditions is ...

Density gradient centrifugation in angle-head rotors
Analytical Biochemistry, 1964Abstract By utilizing DNA and T3 bacteriophage as test materials, good isopyenic banding in CsCl was obtained in #30 and #40 Spinco fixed-angle rotors. Values for the buoyant densities of the materials tested agree with published values and density gradients formed after prolonged centrifugation approximate the calculated compositional gradient at ...

Enucleation of cells by density gradient centrifugation
Experimental Cell Research, 1975Abstract HEp-2 cells can be enucleated by ultracentrifugation in a colloidal silica (PTL) density gradient, containing cytochalasin B. Under optimal conditions, more than 70% of the cells are enucleated. Purification up to 97% is carried out by centrifugation at low speed through a second, preformed PTL density gradient.

Zonal separations by density-gradient centrifugation
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1953Summary Zonal separations in the centrifuge have been obtained by floating a layer of a solution of particles on a second solution which has a density gradient and in which the particles are soluble. During subsequent centrifugation all those particles of the same size, shape, and density sedimented as a zone.

Plant Protoplast Enucleation by Density Gradient Centrifugation
2003A number of different methods have been developed for the enucleation of cells, particularly mammalian cells. Centrifugation of cells adhering to a surface may lead to the nucleus being drawn out from the cytoplasm, resulting in the formation of an enucleated cell or cytoplast and a nucleus surrounded by a thin layer of cytoplasm bounded by a plasma ...

Photometric scanning of centrifuged density gradient columns
Analytical Biochemistry, 1963Abstract Results obtained with an apparatus for recording the ultraviolet absorbance at all depths in a centrifuged density gradient column and for collecting consecutive samples are presented. A heavy sucrose solution is forced from a motor-driven syringe into the bottom of a gradient column.

Density gradient centrifugations of adenovirus-antibody complexes
Archiv fr die gesamte Virusforschung, 1965Buoyant density sedimentations in CsCl of adenovirus type 5 and virus-antibody complexes has been described. It has been demonstrated that virus which survives a certain dose of antibody is found at densities lower than that of untreated particles suggesting a coating of the virus with antibody.

Centrifugation of brain microsomes in a density gradient
Experimental Cell Research, 1960Abstract Microsomal preparations from rat brain were centrifuged in various density gradients obtained with different concentrations of sucrose. The different zones of the gradients were analyzed chemically as to their protein and RNA content and examined with the electron microscope as to their content of particles and membrane structures.

Isolation of Mammalian Peroxisomes by Density Gradient Centrifugation
2023Sophisticated organelle fractionation strategies were the workhorse of early peroxisome research and led to the characterization of the principal functions of the organelle. However, even in the era of molecular biology and "omics" technologies, they are still of importance to unravel peroxisome-specific proteomes, confirm the localization of still ...
