Impact of Radiation Therapy on Physical and Psychosocial Health of Adolescents and Young Adults: A Joint Report From the Children's Oncology Group AYA and Radiation Oncology Committees

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rates of cancer among adolescents and young adults (AYA), age 15–39 years, are increasing. Consequently, radiation oncologists are treating more AYAs who have diagnoses spanning both pediatric and adult practices. Compared to pediatric and older adult patients, AYAs face a unique set of challenges.

Human macrophages limit oxidation products in low density lipoprotein

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2005
This study tested the hypothesis that human macrophages have the ability to modify oxidation products in LDL and oxidized LDL (oxLDL) via a cellular antioxidant defence system.

Referral Patterns and Diagnostic Timeliness in Pediatric Cancer: A Hospital‐Based Study in Indonesia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Timely diagnosis and treatment are critical for improving survival among children with cancer. In low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs), delays are common and may be influenced by fragmented referral pathways and diagnostic limitations.

A Functional Central Limit Theorem for Kernel Type Density Estimators

open access: yesAustrian Journal of Statistics, 2016
Kernel type density estimators are studied for random fields. A functional central limit theorem in the space of square integrable functions is proved if the locations of observations become more and more dense in an increasing sequence of domains.

Numerical analysis of biological effects on several organs inside human body exposed to electric field from 500 kV OHTLs [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2019
There is concern about the human health from electromagnetic field which is emitted from the high voltage overhead transmission lines (OHTLs). The biological effects inside human body depend on electric field intensity and current density flowing ...

Bone Mineral Density After Contemporary Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia: A Matched Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Reduced bone mineral density (BMD) has been reported in survivors of childhood and young adult acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL); however, data from cohorts treated with contemporary protocols and including matched controls remain limited.

Disentangling core and edge mechanisms of the density limit in DIII-D negative triangularity plasmas

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The density limit is investigated in the DIII-D negative triangularity plasmas which lack a standard H-mode edge. We find the limit may not be a singular disruptive boundary but a multifaceted density saturation phenomenon governed by distinct core and ...

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

The role of shear flow collapse and enhanced turbulence spreading in edge cooling approaching the density limit

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Experimental studies of the dynamics of shear flow and turbulence spreading at the edge of tokamak plasmas are reported. Scans of line-averaged density and plasma current are carried out while approaching the Greenwald density limit on the J-TEXT tokamak.

Turbulence in the near scrape-off layer towards the L-mode density limit in ASDEX-Upgrade

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2022
The L-mode density limit in ASDEX Upgrade is investigated with focus on the scrape-off layer. We observe a chain of events that involves the collapse of the E×B outer shear layer (just outside the separatrix), widening of the electron pressure fall-off ...
