Resin-bonded fixed partial dentures past and present--an overview.

Journal of the Irish Dental Association, 2013
Resin-bonded fixed partial dentures have been in use for over 30 years, since the concept was first introduced in the 1970s. Initial efforts in this field suffered frequent early debond, but advances in metal alloys, treatment of the fitting surface and bonding techniques have made the resin-bonded fixed partial denture a predicable treatment modality.

Design principles for cantilevered resin-bonded fixed partial dentures.

Quintessence international (Berlin, Germany : 1985), 2001
Recent clinical studies show 2-unit cantilevered resin-bonded fixed partial dentures to be as retentive or more retentive than their fixed-fixed counterparts. The fact that the 2-unit prosthesis is successful adds value to the clinical use of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures because the single-abutment prosthesis is even simpler and more cost ...

Resin-bonded fixed partial dentures for abutment teeth with existing occlusal restorations

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1990
A problem arises if the abutment tooth for a resinbonded prosthesis (Maryland fixed partial denture) has an extensive occlusal restoration (Fig. 1, a). If the restoration is shallow, occlusal reduction compromises the retention of the restoration or can expose the dentin.

Resin-bonded fixed partial dentures: what's new?

Journal (Canadian Dental Association), 2008
Dentists often question the use of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) for reliable restoration of tooth-bound edentulous spaces. Initial attempts at bonding fixed partial dentures on teeth resulted in early failure due to debonding. In the 1980s and 1990s, improvements in preparation methods, metal alloys and bonding techniques made the RBFPD

Zirconia resin-bonded fixed partial dentures in the anterior maxilla.

Quintessence international (Berlin, Germany : 1985), 2009
To determine the fracture resistance of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) by examining the influence of framework design and abutment mobility.RBFPD frameworks were made of zirconia (Cercon Base, Degudent) or a nonprecious alloy (reference; Dentitan, Elephant Dental) and veneered with ceramic (Cercon Ceram S, Degudent).

Predictable success with resin bonded fixed partial dentures.

Journal of the Irish Dental Association, 2001
The conservative nature of the resin bonded fixed partial denture is the reason it is used. The ability to replace a missing tooth while avoiding aggressive preparation of the abutment teeth is a desirable concept. The use of conservative preparation forms will aid in the long term predictable success of the resin bonded fixed partial denture.
