Parallelisation of a code for seismic depth migration

1995
A serial code for 2D seismic depth migration has been ported to a parallel platform. Only small modifications of the serial code was necessary. The porting was done using portable parallel primitives, such that the same code can be run on a number of parallel and serial machines.

Object based coding of the depth maps for 3D video coding

IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 2009
The emergence of three dimensional (3D) video applications, based on depth image based rendering (DIBR) has brought up more requirements of bandwidth, due to the need of depth information. This additional bandwidth requirement need to be tackled to enable the widespread of 3D video applications based on DIBR.

Depth-Based Multiview Distributed Video Coding

IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, 2014
Multiview distributed video coding (DVC) has gained much attention in the last few years because of its potential in avoiding communication between cameras without decreasing the coding performance. However, the current results are not matching the expectations mainly due to the fact that some assumptions of the theory are not satisfied in the current ...

High priority intra coding method for depth video coding

2012 Picture Coding Symposium, 2012
Depth video coding is one of the key techniques to realize the three-dimensional (3D) video system. The depth video is spatially high correlated compared to its corresponding color video in general. In this paper, we propose a high priority intra coding method for depth video coding to efficiently reduce the spatial redundancy.

Depth Maps Fast Scalable Compression Based On Coding Unit Depth

2020 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2020
SHVC, the Scalable extension of the High Efficiency Video Coding standard (HEVC), combines large compression efficiency and high visual quality of different versions of a same video in a single bitstream. However, this comes at the cost of a high computational complexity. Many efforts aim to reduce this latter for texture images.

Anchor points coding for depth map compression

2014 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2014
The paper deals with encoding the contours of given regions in an image. All contours are represented as a sequence of contour segments, each such segment being defined by an anchor (starting) point and a string of contour edges, equivalent to a string of chain-code symbols.

Preprocessing of Depth and Color Information for Layered Depth Image Coding

2004
The layered depth image (LDI) is a popular approach to represent three-dimensional objects with complex geometry for image-based rendering (IBR). LDI contains several attribute values together with multiple layers at each pixel location. In this paper, we propose an efficient preprocessing algorithm to compress depth and color information of LDI ...

Multiview Video Plus Depth Coding With Depth-Based Prediction Mode

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2014
In this paper, we propose a novel multiview video plus depth (MVD) codec that uses a depth-based prediction mode (DBPM) both for texture videos and the depth maps. We show that the proposed codec can provide up to 9.2%, 9.9%, and 6.7% bitrate savings over H.264/MVC (MVC) for coding MVD data, depth maps, and multiview videos, respectively.

The depth distribution-a new characterization for linear codes

Proceedings of IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory, 1997
Summary: We apply the well-known operator of sequences, the derivative \(D\), on codewords of linear codes. The depth of a codeword \(c\) is the smallest integer \(i\) such that \(D^ic\) (the derivative applied \(i\) consecutive times) is zero. We show that the depth distribution of the nonzero codewords of an \([n,k]\) linear code consists of exactly \

Optimization of depth modeling modes in 3D-HEVC depth intra coding

Journal of Real-Time Image Processing, 2016
In the development of 3D video extension of high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard, known as 3D-HEVC, depth modeling modes (DMMs) are introduced in depth intra coding to represent object edges in depth maps. With the DMMs, a depth block is approximated by partitioning the block into two non-rectangular regions using Wedgelet or Contour partition,
