Phosphorylation of S‐S‐S Motif in Nuclear Export Protein (NEP) Plays a Critical Role in Viral Ribonucleoprotein (vRNP) Nuclear Export of Influenza A and B Viruses

The phosphorylation of S‐S‐S motif on influenza virus NEP is required for NEP interaction with CRM1 thereby mediating vRNP nuclear export, which can be regulated by the kinase ATM and CK2. Impairment of phosphorylation on NEP S‐S‐S motif significantly suppresses virus replication and reduces the virulence in mice.
