Des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin (DCP) is a useful tumor marker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The present method for measurement of DCP concentration, however, does not have adequate sensitivity to detect small HCCs.The serum DCP concentration was investigated by the avidin-biotin complex (ABC) method in patients with an HCC smaller than 20 mm in ...

The des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin (DCP) level was found to be increased in the majority of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC). This increase has to be distinguished from an increased DCP level linked to a vitamin K deficiency. We studied the evolution of increased DCP level in 6 patients with histologically proven HCC and in 10 without HCC after slow ...

Des-Gamma-Carboxyprothrombin (PIVKA II) and Plasma Vitamin K1 in Newborns and Their Mothers
Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1992SummaryAssessments of the vitamin K status in newborns and their mothers by means of des-γ-carboxy-prothrombin (PIVKA II) measurement have given equivocal results. Part of the variability could be attributed to differences in sensitivity (i.e. the ability to detect small concentrations) and validity (i.e.

In order to explore pathologies possibly associated with vitamin K deficiency, several monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) were produced against human Desgamma-Carboxy-Prothrombin (DCP). One of these mAbs, designated C4B6, detected DCP forms in the presence of Calcium ions, confirmed by comparison with the patterns of two electrophoretic techniques: Affino ...

AbstractIn the absence of vitamin K or in the presence of the vitamin K antagonists, abnormal nonfunctional forms of prothrombin circulate in the blood. A reliable and reproducible technique, derived from traditional crossed affinoimmunoelectrophoresis in presence of calcium lactate, was developed and optimized.

The des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.
The Italian journal of gastroenterology, 1993Des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin level was measured by enzyme immunoassay in the plasma of 39 patients suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma and 26 controls. Two of these were anticoagulated by warfarin and revealed very high positive values; the remaining 24, 8 healthy subjects and 16 patients with cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis, were negative.

The role of des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin expression in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Hepato-gastroenterology, 2009Des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin (DCP), is a well-known tumor marker of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). On the other hand, some reports suggest that tissue expression of DCP is more useful as a prognostic factor than the serum DCP value. The aim of this study is to clarify the clinicopathological role of expression of DCP on HCC, especially when there is a

Materials and Methods We performed a single-center, prospective, casecontrol study including 164 HCC patients and 422 controls between 02/2007 and 11/2008. The serum concentration of AFP and DCP, and the percentage of AFP-L3 were determined using the Wako LiBASys clinical auto-analyzer by a liquidphase binding assay.

A new method to assay des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin (DCP) activity is described, using staphylocoagulase on undiluted citrated plasma after adsorption with bentonite (to remove fibrinogen), then with aluminium hydroxide. The thrombin-coagulase which is formed is measured by following the increase in optical density per minute of a chromogenic substrate.
