Pilot Study Comparing Adverse Cardiorespiratory Events among Pharmacologically and Nonpharmacologically Treated Infants Undergoing Monitoring for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

open access: yesThe Journal of Pediatrics: X, 2020
There is variation in cardiorespiratory monitoring practices for neonatal abstinence syndrome. We examined the incidence of cardiorespiratory adverse events in infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome who were treated or nontreated pharmacologically ...

Oxygen Desaturation Is Associated With Fibrocyte Activation via Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor/Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α Axis in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Fibrocytes are bloodborne mesenchymal progenitors which accumulate and differentiate at the disease site. We investigated whether hypoxemia activates fibrocytes, accelerating airflow limitation and exercise intolerance in chronic obstructive pulmonary ...

Revisiting Securidaca longipedunculata Seed Oil: Applying NMR and Mass Spectroscopy to Confirm the Presence of 2‐Acetyl‐1,3‐Diacyl–sn‐Glycerols and Conjugated Hydroxydienoic Fatty Acids

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
The manuscript confirms and expands on previous reports concerning the presence of unusual conjugated hydroxydienoic fatty acids and acetyl‐TAG in the seed oil of Securidaca longipedunculata. The location of acetate only at sn‐2 of TAG was conclusively shown by high resolution NMR and hydroxy seed fatty acids are characterized.

Expert Perspectives: Defining and Managing Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis in Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis–associated interstitial lung disease (SSc‐ILD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in SSc, affecting up to three‐quarters of patients. The disease course is highly heterogeneous, ranging from indolent, nonprogressive forms to rapidly progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF).

Functional Diversity and Oleaginous Potential of Fungal Strains From Hawaiian Soil Ecosystems

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fungi represent an important but underexplored resource for microbial lipid production, including nutritionally valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids. Hawaiian soils, shaped by volcanic parent materials and strong environmental gradients, provide a unique setting for discovering functionally diverse fungal strains with distinct metabolic traits.

Double Transeptal Puncture for SAPIEN M3 Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement: Initial Experience, Indications, and Technique

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The SAPIEN M3 system has been recently approved for transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR). The transeptal guide sheath is used to deploy the dock, which is completely released before inserting and deploying the M3 valve using the same femoral access, transeptal puncture (TSP) and guide sheath.

Simulated kangaroo care in very preterm infants does not reduce physiological instability: the COSYBABY randomised controlled cross-over trial

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics
IntroductionInfants who are born very preterm experience frequent episodes of physiological instability including apnoea, oxygen desaturation and bradycardia due to immaturity of the pulmonary and nervous systems. Parental contact, such as kangaroo care,

Mechanism of Isonitrilase, a Nonheme Iron Decarboxylase Involved in the Biosynthesis of the Isonitrile Group in Peptides: A Computational Study

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A combination of molecular dynamics and quantum mechanics calculations shows that substrate is tightly bound inside the enzyme structure that enables two successive catalytic cycles with dioxygen and α‐ketoglutarate with an initial desaturation followed by hydrogen abstraction and decarboxylation steps to form an isonitrile substituent.
