DAF-16/FoxO in Caenorhabditis elegans and its role in metabolic remodeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
DAF-16, the only forkhead box transcription factors class O (FoxO) homolog in Caenorhabditis elegans, integrates signals from upstream pathways to elicit transcriptional changes in many genes involved in aging, development, stress, metabolism, and ...

Desiccation and heat tolerance of Enterobacter sakazakii [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Microbiology, 2003
Enterobacter sakazakii is an opportunistic pathogen which has been isolated at low levels from powdered infant formulas. This study was performed to demonstrate that Ent. sakazakii is not particularly thermotolerant, but can adapt to osmotic and dry stress. We determined the heat, osmotic and dry stress resistance of Ent. sakazakii.

3D Bioinspired Hair‐Based Solar Evaporator for Efficient Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐derived solar evaporator inspired by blackbody radiation is developed using human hair waste. The vertically aligned hair structure enables broadband light absorption, efficient thermal localization, and rapid water transport, achieving high evaporation rates and stable desalination performance.

Dehydration-induced Ae-Aper50 regulates midgut infection in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes

open access: yesmBio
Climate change is predicted to increase the spread of mosquito-borne viruses, but genetic mechanisms underlying the influence of environmental variation on the ability of insect vectors to transmit human pathogens is unknown.

Insight into transketolase of Pyropia haitanensis under desiccation stress based on integrative analysis of omics and transformation

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2019
Background Pyropia haitanensis, distributes in the intertidal zone, can tolerate water losses exceeding 90%. However, the mechanisms enabling P. haitanensis to survive harsh conditions remain uncharacterized.

JUNGBRUNNEN1 confers drought tolerance downstream of the HD-Zip I Transcription factor AtHB13 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Low water availability is the major environmental factor limiting growth and productivity of plants and crops and is therefore considered of high importance for agriculture affected by climate change.

DENTA: A Dual Enzymatic Nanoagent for Self‐Activating Tooth Whitening and Biofilm Disruption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanoapatite with dual enzymes (DENTA) accumulates in dentinal tubules, reducing hypersensitivity caused by dental nerve exposure and facilitating continuous ROS generation through salivary glucose for effective, long‐term whitening. The dentin structures remain non‐destructive due to the low concentration of ROS, demonstrating excellent cell ...

Characterization of a set of abdominal neuroendocrine cells that regulate stress physiology using colocalized diuretic peptides in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Multiple neuropeptides are known to regulate water and ion balance in Drosophila melanogaster. Several of these peptides also have other functions in physiology and behavior.

CRISPR/Cas9‐Assisted Microrobots for Fast and Ultrasensitive “On‐The‐Fly” Next‐Generation DNA Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents self‐propelled CRISPR/Cas9‐functionalized Au–MRs for rapid, amplification‐free, “on‐the‐fly” DNA detection. By harnessing motion‐assisted signal recovery, the platform achieved the limit of detection in low fM DNA concentrations, enabling detection across a wide dynamic range within only 5 min, which is significantly faster than any ...

Tripogon loliiformis tolerates rapid desiccation after metabolic and transcriptional priming during initial drying

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Crop plants and undomesticated resilient species employ different strategies to regulate their energy resources and growth. Most crop species are sensitive to stress and prioritise rapid growth to maximise yield or biomass production.
