Developing multiagent systems: the Gaia Methodology
Systems composed of interacting autonomous agents offer a promising software engineering approach for developing applications in complex domains. However, this multiagent system paradigm introduces a number of new abstractions and design/development ...

Discovery of Design Methodologies
In this paper we present an AI-based approach for the discovery of design methodologies for multi-disciplinary design situations. The approach is based on sim- ulating the design process using a multi-agent system that mimics the behavior of the design team. The system activates the pieces of design knowledge when they become applicable.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

A unified framework for characterizing response quality in surveys with multi-item scales
Self-administered surveys are widely used but the quality of the survey responses have been a major concern. Low-quality responses threaten the validity and replicability of studies.

The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

An aerospace component cost modelling study for value driven design [PDF]
Demand is increasing in aero-engine products for better efficiency and environmental performance whilst keeping the cost low. Unlike performance, the physics behind cost is least understood.
