Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

Densification of Expanded Polystyrene Waste Using Organic Solvents, a Sustainable Recycling Strategy

open access: yesEng
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a material with a wide range of applications in different sectors of everyday life and in industry. EPS is a major environmental challenge, as the properties that give it versatility of use make it a difficult waste to ...

A Multivariate Statistical Quality Control of AISI 52100 Hardened Steel Turning

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Hard turning processes have several advantages against traditional turning. Improved surface integrity and short process time are some examples. Surface integrity is one of the most important issues in modeling of machining processes.

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.

An energetic approach to the statistical analysis and optimization of friction welding processes applied to an aluminum-steel-joint

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Joining Processes
The present publication deals with an energy-oriented approach to the statistical analysis of rotational friction welding processes. To illustrate the methodological approach, it is applied to investigate the effects of energy flow on material flow ...

Structural and biochemical analysis of a B12 superbinder

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
BtuG proteins are vitamin B12 scavengers in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, a dominant human gut bacterium. We present crystal structures of three BtuG homologs bound to cobalamin and its precursor cobinamide, revealing picomolar binding affinities, among the highest known for any natural protein.

Statistical Design of Experiments Enables Rapid Exploration of Perfluorobutane Sulfonate Degradation

open access: yesECS Advances
The phase-out of long-chain PFAS has led to the proliferation of highly recalcitrant short-chain analogs, and mineralization technologies for these short-chain PFAS are needed to mitigate their deleterious effects on environmental and human health.

The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Leucine‐rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a ganglioside‐binding protein

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neuronal hyperexcitability associated with a decrease/absence of the extracellular protein LGI1 has been suggested to be primarily due to the downregulation of Kv1 channel expression. The molecular mechanisms underlying this decrease have not yet been elucidated.
