A Pattern Language for Teaching Design Patterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Pedagogical Patterns help in general with teaching. But the teaching of design patterns introduces a few specific problems like e.g. ensuring that the purpose of patterns is understood and that patterns are applied in the appropriate and correct way. This pattern language for teaching design patterns addresses these problems and offers solutions for ...

Using Pattern Languages in Participatory Design

open access: yes
In this paper, we examine the contribution that pattern languages could make to user participation in the design of interactive systems, and we report on our experiences of using pattern languages in this way. In recent years, there has been a growing

Designing for social configurations: Pattern languages to inform the design of ubiquitous computing

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper we present our approach for informing the design of ubiquitous computing by using pattern languages of human practice. By linking ethnography and design, this approach makes it possible to tackle the social dimension of ubiquitous computing

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Pattern languages in HCI: a critical review

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents a critical review of patterns and pattern languages in human-computer interaction (HCI). In recent years, patterns and pattern languages have received considerable attention in HCI for their potential as a means for developing and ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Meta-model Based Model Organization and Transformation of Design Pattern Units in MDA

open access: yesJournal of Measurement Science and Instrumentation, 2010
To achieve the purpose of applying design patterns which are various in kind and constant in changing in MDA from idea and application, one way is used to solve the problem of pattern disappearance which occurs at the process of pattern instantiation,to ...

Design patterns of biological cells

open access: yesBioEssays
AbstractDesign patterns are generalized solutions to frequently recurring problems. They were initially developed by architects and computer scientists to create a higher level of abstraction for their designs. Here, we extend these concepts to cell biology to lend a new perspective on the evolved designs of cells' underlying reaction networks.

A Framework for the Definiton of a Generative Design Pattern

open access: yes
Conventional design patterns found in many pattern catalogues are static components of reusable design knowledge. They are fully descriptive of the problems they will solve, but the descriptive knowledge and design they provide does not describe how they
