Precise Modeling of Design Patterns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Design Patterns are now widely accepted as a useful concept for guiding and documenting the design of object-oriented software systems. Still the UML is ill-equipped for precisely representing design patterns. It is true that some graphical annotations related to parameterized collaborations can be drawn on a UML model, but even the most classical GoF ...

Supporting Knitwear Design Using Case-Based Reasoning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Organised by: Cranfield UniversityKnitwear design is a creative activity that is hard to automate using the computer. The production of the associated knitting pattern, however, is repetitive, time-consuming and error-prone, calling for automation. Our

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Following the Writer’s Path to the Dynamically Coalescing Reactive Chains Design Pattern

open access: yesAlgorithms
Two recent studies addressed the problem of reducing transitional turbulence in applications developed in C# on .NET. The first study investigated this problem in desktop and Web GUI applications and the second in virtual and augmented reality ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Design patterns : connecting systemic functional linguistics and pattern languages

open access: yes, 2010
Educational institutions, such as universities, are steadily working to make more effective and extensive use of technology. They seek to improve connections between students and teachers, and to achieve a closer fit between learning activities and the ...

Computer aided clothing pattern design with 3D editing and pattern alteration

open access: yes, 2012
The traditional apparel product development process is a typical iterative 'optimization' process that involves trial-and-error. In order to confirm the design and achieve a satisfactory fit, a number of repeated cycles of sample preparation, trial ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

On Evaluation of Accuracy in Pattern Detection

open access: yes, 2006
Pattern detection is part of many solutions to software engineering problems and high accuracy of detection is important to help solve the actual problems. The improvement in accuracy of design pattern detection approaches requires some way of evaluating

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
