Modeling the early stages of a user-centered process in architectural design through adaptation of the methodologies of New Product Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In order to reach a degree of quality in architectural buildings that is likely to lead to user satisfaction, architectural design relies on integrating user-related information even before generation of building concepts.

Understanding the Impact of Different Nucleation Strategies on Bis(2-hydroxyethyl) Terephthalate Crystallization from a Glycolysis Reaction Mixture

open access: yesCrystals
The recycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is gaining increasing importance, as it enables the conversion of plastic waste into valuable raw materials and contributes to a circular economy.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

First-principle modeling of parallel-flow regenerative kilns and their optimization with genetic algorithm and gradient-based method

open access: yesDigital Chemical Engineering
We present a one-dimensional first-principle model for parallel-flow regenerative kilns that accounts for the most important effects. These include the kinetics and thermal effects of the limestone decomposition as well as the heat transfer between the ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Digital assembly process design for aircraft systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The research described in this thesis concentrates on the development of an integrated assembly process design for aircraft systems. Assembly process design is one of the most important and complicated activities in aircraft manufacturing.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Design Considerations for AR-Enabled Human-Robot Collaboration in Fabrication-Centric Architectural Design Process: A Co-design Approach

open access: yes
The emergence of collaborative robotics presents an opportunity for architectural designers to safely engage in design and fabrication through human-robot collaboration (HRC).

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Obstructed Magic: on the Myths of Observing Designing and of Sharing Design Observations

open access: yes, 2008
Much design research, including much research in the computer-aided architectural design field, is based on the assumption that the process of designing is observable and that what happens in designing can be known, explicitly described and shared.
