Biosynthetic pathway of desmosines in elastin [PDF]

open access: bronzeBiochemical Journal, 1973
1. Elastins purified by various methods from the ligamentum nuchae and the lungs of cattle of various ages were analysed for amino acid compositions and lysine-derived cross-links. 2. In fully mature elastins from adults the main cross-links were desmosine, isodesmosine and lysinonorleucine and the so-called aldol-condensation product. Trace amounts of

The Biosynthesis of Desmosine and Isodesmosine

open access: hybridJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1966
The biosynthesis of desmosine and isodesmosine was studied with chick embryo aortas in tissue culture. Radioactivity was incorporated into desmosine and isodesmosine when uniformly labeled lysine-14C was added to the medium, but no activity could be incorporated into these amino acids from aspartic acid-14C, glutamic acid-14C, or threonine-14C.

A structural model for desmosine cross-linked peptides [PDF]

open access: greenBiochemical Journal, 1978
Desmosine-enriched peptides were isolated from a thermolysin digest of bovine ligamentum nuchae elastin and a partial sequence was determined. A ‘two-cross-link’ model is proposed in which a second cross-link, perhaps lysinonorleucine, joins two peptide chains approx. 35 amino acid residues removed from the desmosine. Implied in this model is a certain

Desmosine-Inspired Cross-Linkers for Hyaluronan Hydrogels [PDF]

open access: goldScientific Reports, 2013
We designed bioinspired cross-linkers based on desmosine, the cross-linker in natural elastin, to prepare hydrogels with thiolated hyaluronic acid. These short, rigid cross-linkers are based on pyridinium salts (as in desmosine) and can connect two polymer backbones.

Enhancing Exosomal Delivery to Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms using Magnetically Responsive Chemotactic Nanomotors for Elastic Matrix Regenerative Repair. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
MMS/MSCE/CAT is a dual‐driven nanomotor, guided by magnetic fields to accumulate in low‐flow regions near arterial walls and subsequently targets abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) via chemotaxis. This improves the delivery efficiency of mesenchymal stem cell exosomes and promotes elastic matrix regeneration repair, reversing AAA progression through ...

Effects of Vitamin D and K on Interleukin-6 in COVID-19

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
BackgroundPathology during COVID-19 infection arises partly from an excessive inflammatory response with a key role for interleukin (IL)-6. Both vitamin D and K have been proposed as potential modulators of this process.MethodsWe assessed vitamin D and K
