Desmosteryl sulfate and desmosterol in hamster epididymal spermatozoa

Steroids, 1974
Abstract Desmosteryl sulfate composes 95% of the sterol sulfate fraction of hamster epididymal spermatozoa at a level of 10 mg/g dry weight. Desmosterol represents as much as 40% of the free sterol fraction of these cells. Only cholesterol was detected in the free sterol fraction from plasma and liver of the same animals.

Solubility of Desmosterol in Five Organic Solvents

Journal of Chemical & Engineering Data, 2008
The solubilities of desmosterol in methanol, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, and acetonitrile were measured. The solubilities of desmosterol in these solvents increased with temperature and varied greatly with the solvent from a minimum of 0.1151 mol·L−1 in acetonitrile at 300.8 K to a maximum of 1.102 mol·L−1 in ethyl acetate at 332.8 K.

Gas chromatographic determination of cholesterol-desmosterol ratios

Analytical Biochemistry, 1965
Abstract A method for the separation and estimation of desmosterol and cholesterol by a gas chromatographic technique is described. The separation of the free sterols was carried out with a phenyl-substituted siloxane polymer as a stationary phase, and with a hydrogen flame ionization detection system.

Fluorinated Sterols Part II: 26,27-polyfluorinated desmosterols

Journal of Fluorine Chemistry, 1976
Abstract The synthesis of polyfluorinated desmosterols by a Wittig condensation between a steroidal triphenylphosphonium ylid and polyfluorinated acetones is described. The mass spectra of these fluorinated steroids show significant differences from the unsubstituted parent compounds.

Cytotoxic Oxygenated Desmosterols of the Red Alga Galaxaura marginata

Journal of Natural Products, 1996
Desmosterol (1), 24,25-epoxycholesterol (2), 24-hydroperoxycholesta-5,25-dien-3 beta-ol (3), 25-hydroperoxycholesta-5,23(E)-dien-3 beta-ol (4), cholesta-5,25-diene-3 beta,24-diol (5), and 24,25-epoxy-6 beta-hydroxycholest-4-en-3-one (7) were isolated from the marine red alga Galaxaura marginata; sterols 3, 4, and 7 were isolated for the first time from
