Chemical Imaging with Desorption Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry
2010Desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DESI-MS) is a relatively new ambient surface analysis method. This technique requires little or no sample preparation prior to the actual analysis. Along with other application areas, DESI-MS is used to obtain chemical images of different biomolecules in biological tissue sections.

Analytical Chemistry, 2006A droplet pickup and other mechanisms have been suggested for the ionization of biomolecules like peptides and proteins by desorption electrospray ionization. To verify this hypothesis phase Doppler particle analysis was used to study the sizes and velocities of droplets involved in DESI.

Journal of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, 2020Protein analysis by desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DESI-MS) is limited and often accompanied by a mass-dependent loss in sensitivity as protein molecular weight increases. Previously, incomplete dissolution was identified as a potential contributing factor to this limitation for larger proteins.
