Assessment of the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) detection efficiency by comparison to the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS)

open access: yes, 2017
In this study, strokes detected by the World Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN) were compared to the flashes detected by the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) between the years 2012 and 2014.

Position-Dependent Local Detection Efficiency in a Nanowire Superconducting Single-Photon Detector. [PDF]

open access: yesNano letters (Print), 2015
We probe the local detection efficiency in a nanowire superconducting single-photon detector along the cross-section of the wire with a far subwavelength resolution.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Evaluation of the efficiency of detection of bacterial DNA in milk and tissue samples from cattle, sheep, and goats by conventional and nested PCR targeting Com1, sod and Transposase IS1111 genes of Coxiella burnetii genome

open access: yesMacedonian Veterinary Review
Q fever is a worldwide zoonosis, caused by Coxiella burnetii, an obligate intracellular bacterium that affects both humans and animals. The serious consequences on human health and the economic losses it causes, require the use of rapid, accurate, and ...

Adaptive band selection snapshot multispectral imaging in the VIS/NIR domain

open access: yes, 2010
Hyperspectral imaging has proven its efficiency for target detection applications but the acquisition mode and the data rate are major issues when dealing with real-time detection applications.

SplitScreen: Enabling efficient, distributed malware detection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Communications and Networks, 2011
We present the design and implementation of a novel anti-malware system called SplitScreen. SplitScreen performs an additional screening step prior to the signature matching phase found in existing approaches. The screening step filters out most non-infected files (90%) and also identifies malware signatures that are not of interest (99%).

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Single photon detection performance of highly disordered NbTiN thin films

open access: yesJournal of Physics Communications, 2023
We experimentally investigated the detection performance of highly disordered ${{\rm{Nb}}}_{x}{{\rm{Ti}}}_{1-x}{\rm{N}}\,$ based superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPDs).

High efficiency photon counting using stopped light

open access: yes, 2002
Single-photon detection and photon counting play a central role in a large number of quantum communication and computation protocols. While the efficiency of state-of-the-art photo-detectors is well below the desired limits, quantum state measurements in
