Mark-recapture estimators for dual frame population size of prominent nesting structures: the effect of uncertain detection probability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The combined mark-recapture and line transect sampling methodology proposed by Alpizar- Jara and Pollock [Journal of Environmental and Ecological Statistics, 3(4), 311–327, 1996; In Marine Mammal Survey and Assessment Methods Symposium. G.W. Garner, S.C.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Investigation of an Optimum Detection Scheme for a Star-Field Mapping System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
An investigation was made to determine the optimum detection scheme for a star-field mapping system that uses coded detection resulting from starlight shining through specially arranged multiple slits of a reticle.

Focusing on a Probability Element: Parameter Selection of Message Importance Measure in Big Data

open access: yes, 2017
Message importance measure (MIM) is applicable to characterize the importance of information in the scenario of big data, similar to entropy in information theory.

On capacity of optical communications over a lossy bosonic channel with a receiver employing the most general coherent electro-optic feedback control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We study the problem of designing optical receivers to discriminate between multiple coherent states using coherent processing receivers---i.e., one that uses arbitrary coherent feedback control and quantum-noise-limited direct detection---which was ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Quantum Detection with Unknown States

open access: yes, 2005
We address the problem of distinguishing among a finite collection of quantum states, when the states are not entirely known. For completely specified states, necessary and sufficient conditions on a quantum measurement minimizing the probability of a ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Springtime bird use of agricultural landscapes examined by using autonomous recording units

open access: yesJournal of Field Ornithology
Autonomous recording units (ARUs) emerged as a novel technology for avian acoustic monitoring in the 2000s. They have since been primarily used as a substitute for human observers during the breeding season. Autonomous recording units have potential uses
