Comparison of two extraction methods for ergosterol determination in vegetal feeds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Ergosterol is the principal sterol of fungi in which it plays an essential role in cell membrane and other cellular constituents. This sterol is considered as a good marker of fungal contamination and of mycotoxin production.

Universal method for contact fatigue determination

open access: yesMethodsX
In the process of contact wear, pitting is formed, which destroys the surface of the part. Existing methods for assessing contact fatigue (GOST 25.501–78, R 50–54–30–87) reveal a stress level at which pitting does not occur. At the same time, there is no

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

the modified virating interphase method for the determination of the pzc [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
you known vibrating interphase method when a.c. is measured fails while investigating very dilute solutions because of the ohmic drop of the potential in the solution. The proposed version of the method is free from this disadvantage.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Correlation of dental age estimated by Moorrees and Demirjian methods with chronological age in orthodontic patients

open access: yesThe Journal of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences, 2016
Background: Dental age determination has been considered for malocclusion treatment planning by Orthodontists and Pediatric Dentists. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the correlation of dental age estimated by Demirjian and Moorrees ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
