Non-Newtonian deterministic lateral displacement separator: theory and simulations

open access: yes, 2013
Deterministic lateral displacement devices have been proved to be an efficient way to perform continuous particle separation in microfluidic applications (Huang et al. Science 304:987-990, 2004). On the basis of their size, particles traveling through an

Strong Coupling in Bulk Nanoplasmonic Nanoplatelet Perovskite Scintillators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A bulk scintillating nanocomposite is engineered from CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets and Ag nanocubes to support exciton–plasmon strong coupling under X‐ray excitation. The resulting hybrid polaritonic states appear directly in radioluminescence, opening a route toward polariton‐enabled scintillator design beyond conventional Purcell enhancement.

Tamper‐Responsive Physical Unclonable Functions via Graphene‐Interlayered Block Copolymer Random Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐invalidating multilayer physical unclonable functions (PUFs) integrate fingerprint‐like metal nanopattern bilayers from block copolymer templates with highly reactive reduced graphene oxide (rGO) interlayers. This tamper‐responsive architecture blocks all unauthorized physical and chemical replication attempts while autonomously deactivating ...

Recent Advances in Plasma‐Enhanced Atomic Layer Etching for Next‐Generation Nanofabrication

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Continued semiconductor miniaturization demands atomic‐scale patterning and ultralow surface roughness beyond the capabilities of conventional reactive ion etching. This review highlights advances in isotropic and anisotropic plasma‐enhanced atomic layer etching since 2020, covering fundamental mechanisms, applications across major semiconductor ...

Diseased Erythrocyte Enrichment Based on I-Shaped Pillar DLD Arrays

open access: yesMicromachines
Enrichment of erythrocytes is a necessary step in the diagnosis of blood diseases. Due to the high deformability and viscosity of erythrocytes, they cannot be regarded as stable point-like solids, so the influence of their deformability on fluid dynamics

Spatially programmable deterministic lateral displacement for multi-stage microfluidic separation

open access: yes
Deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) is a widely used microfluidic technique for continuous size-based separation. However, a conventional uniform DLD array is characterized by a single critical diameter (Dc) fixed by...

Strain‐Activated Mechanical Metamaterial With Programmable Dual‐Phase Stiffness and Enhanced Energy Absorption

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A strain‐activated mechanical metamaterial is developed to achieve programmable dual‐phase stiffness through an intrinsic geometric locking mechanism. Finite element modeling and parametric analysis identify the key design parameters governing activation strain, stiffness transition, and energy absorption.

Gravitationally driven deterministic lateral displacement devices

open access: yes, 2009
Deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) is a powerful bimodal separation scheme [1] based on regular obstacle arrays that in its basic embodiment sends particles in two different directions as a function of size. We add functionality to the technique by

Separation of parasites from human blood using deterministic lateral displacement

open access: yes, 2011
We present the use of a simple microfluidic technique to separate living parasites from human blood. Parasitic trypanosomatids cause a range of human and animal diseases.
