Progresses in developmental biology [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Cell Biology, 2016
Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 200031, China E-mail: wujr@sibs.ac.cn Developmental biology is one of the most advanced areas in life science. JMCB has published several collections reporting the research findings that advance our understanding of the ...

Mouse Models and the Evolutionary Developmental Biology of the Skull [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Understanding development is relevant to understanding evolution because developmental processes structure the expression of phenotypic variation upon which natural selection acts.

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Developmental biology of the pancreas [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopment, 1995
ABSTRACT The pancreas is an organ containing two distinct populations of cells, the exocrine cells that secrete enzymes into the digestive tract, and the endocrine cells that secrete hormones into the bloodstream. It arises from the endoderm as a dorsal and a ventral bud which fuse together to form the single organ.

The Morphogenesis Of Evolutionary Developmental Biology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The early studies of evolutionary developmental biology (Evo-Devo) come from several sources. Tributaries flowing into Evo-Devo came from such disciplines as embryology, developmental genetics, evolutionary biology, ecology, paleontology, systematics ...

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

Adamts18 modulates the development of the aortic arch and common carotid artery

open access: yesiScience, 2021
Summary: Members of a disintegrin and metalloproteinases with thrombospondin motif (ADAMTS) family have been implicated in various vascular diseases. However, their functional roles in early embryonic vascular development are unknown.

Stem cells and the origin of gliomas: A historical reappraisal with molecular advancements. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The biology of both normal and tumor development clearly possesses overlapping and parallel features. Oncogenes and tumor suppressors are relevant not only in tumor biology, but also in physiological developmental regulators of growth and differentiation.

Evolutionary processes from the perspective of flowering time diversity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Although it is well appreciated that genetic studies of flowering time regulation have led to fundamental advances in the fields of molecular and developmental biology, the ways in which genetic studies of flowering time diversity have enriched the field
