Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Lotus Seeds: Current Molecular Biology Insights and Future Perspectives as a Prominent Biological Resource

open access: yesPlants
Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.) is an economically and medicinally significant aquatic plant, with its seeds (lotus seeds) having attracted considerable attention due to their unique developmental traits and abundance of bioactive and nutritional ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

MYH9 mutations differentially stabilize non-muscle myosin II filaments and induce distinct cellular aggregation phenotypes

open access: yesCellular and Molecular Life Sciences
Mutations in the MYH9 gene, which encodes the heavy chain of the actin-based molecular motor non-muscle myosin II-A (NM2-A), cause a spectrum of rare blood disorders collectively termed MYH9-related diseases (MYH9-RD).

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Developmental disorders of vision [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This review of developmental disorders of vision focuses on a few of the many disorders that disrupt visual development. Given the enormity of the human visual system in the primate brain and complexity of visual development, however, there are likely ...

The developmental bases of cleft lip and cleft palate: cellular and molecular mechanisms

open access: yesAnatomy & Cell Biology
Craniofacial development relies on proper growth and fusion during embryogenesis of initially distinct collections of mesenchyme derived from the cranial neural crest, covered by an epithelial lining of ectodermal origin. Fusion between these facial primordia implicates formation of an epithelial seam resulting from adherence and fusion between lining ...
