Dexterous Manipulation of Cloth

Computer Graphics Forum, 2016
AbstractThis paper introduces a new technique to synthesize dexterous manipulation of cloth. Given a simple description of the desired cloth motion, our algorithm computes appropriate joint torques for physically simulated hands, such that, via contact forces, the result of cloth simulation follows the desired motion.

Miserrimus Dexter:

2018
This essay focuses on the ‘monstrous’ deformities of Miserrimus Dexter in Wilkie Collins’s The Law and the Lady (1875) and their framing within the Victorian interest in teratology – the study of genital birth defects. Born without legs, Dexter is a taxonomical conundrum, positioned somewhere between subject and object and between madness and knowledge.

Effects of Exercise on Dexterity

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1995
As musicians occasionally report that their dextral facility is improved by recent exercise, it was hypothesized that manual dexterity would be influenced by a task requiring exertion. Before and after exertion on the Harvard Step Test, the experimental group's ( n = 25) manual dexterity was tested on a grooved peg board.

An overview of dexterous manipulation

Proceedings 2000 ICRA. Millennium Conference. IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation. Symposia Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37065), 2002
Presents an overview of research in dexterous manipulation. We first define robotic dexterous manipulation in comparison to traditional robotics and human manipulation. Next, kinematics, contact types and forces are used to formulate the dexterous manipulation problem.

Dexterous rotations of polyhedra

Proceedings 1992 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003
Studies a strategy for dexterous manipulation, called finger tracking. It is shown that the paradigm of finger tracking may be used to control the fingers of a robot hand to generate rotational motions of the grasped object. The notion of manipulation refers to the reorientation of an object by a mechanical hand by some degrees, about some axis.

Travelling with Dexter Kozen

2012
Aside from our shared interest in particular areas of Theoretical Computer Science, the experience I share with Dexter Kozen originates from the fact that we both belong to the not too large group of Theoreticiancs who during the late 1970-ies and early 1980-ies frequently crossed the Iron Curtain in order to interact with our colleagues from the ...

An Investigation of Finger and Manual Dexterity

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2000
In ergonomics, handgrip has been perceived as one of the most important hand functions; however, other types of functions of the hand are also important to the ergonomist, such as finger and manual dexterity, on which few ergonomic studies have been done.
