Cost-effectiveness of first-line IV vs oral iron for iron-deficiency anemia in women with heavy menstrual bleeding

open access: yesBlood Advances
: Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) affects nearly one-third of women globally, with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) being a significant risk factor among those of reproductive age.

Directed Evolution Improves the Catalytic Efficiency of APEX2‐Mediated Proximity‐Dependent RNA Labeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Engineered ascorbate peroxidase APEX2 has been widely used for spatially restricted profiling of subcellular biomolecules, but its catalytic efficiency toward newly developed probes such as biotin‐aniline (Btn‐An) remains suboptimal. To overcome this limitation, we performed yeast surface display‐based directed evolution to enhance APEX2 ...

β7 Integrin Inhibition Can Increase Intestinal Inflammation by Impairing Homing of CD25hiFoxP3+ Regulatory T Cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background & aimsIntegrin α4β7 mediates lymphocyte trafficking to the gut and gut-associated lymphoid tissues, a process critical for recruitment of effector lymphocytes from the circulation to the gut mucosa in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and ...

Self‐Amplifying Redox Cycle Triggers Ferroptosis/Cuproptosis Synergy for Enhanced Bacterial Eradication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study designs a targeted nanocomposite (ct@HMCF‐Dex) that responds to acidic infection microenvironments, releasing components which amplify oxidative stress. It disrupts bacterial redox balance, chelates metals to sustain lipid peroxidation, and synergistically induces cuproptosis/ferroptosis‐like death.

Prevent Effects of Lactobacillus Fermentum HY01 on Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Colitis in Mice

open access: yesNutrients, 2017
The aim of this study is to assess the preventive effects of Lactobacillus fermentum HY01 (LF-HY01) to dextran sulfate sodium induced-colitis. We observed the ratio of colon weight to its length, colon pathological changes, and the concentrations of pro ...

Biosynthesis of Sciadonic Acid Derived from Gymnosperms with Anti‐Colitis Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes an efficient Yarrowia lipolytica platform for unusual sciadonic acid (SCA) production and assess the anti‐colitis efficacy in mice of SCA, supporting its potential as a novel therapeutic lipid. ABSTRACT Sciadonic acid (SCA), Δ5‐unsaturated fatty acid with anti‐inflammatory and lipid‐regulatory properties, is predominantly derived

Baicalein Inhibits Dextran Sulfate Sodium-induced Mouse Colitis

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Prevention, 2019
Baicalein is a bioactive flavone that is originally extracted from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. This plant has long served as Chinese herbal medicine in the management of multiple diseases including inflammatory bowel diseases. Although it has been revealed that baicalein inhibits experimental colitis in mice, the molecular mechanisms ...

Essential turmeric oils enhance anti-inflammatory efficacy of curcumin in dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Turmeric has been used as a medicinal herb for thousands of years for treatment of various disorders. Although curcumin is the most studied active constituents of turmeric, accumulating evidence suggests that other components of turmeric have additional ...

Chronic alcohol consumption compromises gut barrier integrity and promotes endotoxemia: Implications for sepsis susceptibility in immunocompromised hosts

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Chronic alcohol exposure disrupts intestinal barrier integrity, resulting in a leaky gut and enhanced translocation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and microbial products into the systemic circulation. Alcohol‐induced endotoxemia drives exaggerated pro‐inflammatory responses, mitochondrial damage, and activation of the cGAS–STING pathway, particularly in ...
