Diabetic Macroangiopathy and Atherosclerosis

Diabetes, 1996
In the present study, we have compared and analyzed published data related to the pathogenesis of the large vessel disease in diabetes. The prevailing opinion appears to be that diabetes accelerates the mechanism that leads to development of classical atherosclerosis.

Diabetic Macroangiopathy and Growth Hormone

Diabetes, 1981
The large vessel disease develops slowly and progressively among most diabetics. According to the concept of a specific diabetic macroangiopathy, the alterations in the large vessels are part of the general diabetic angiopathy and are different from the spotty atherosclerosis.

[Macroangiopathy in diabetes mellitus].

Deutsche medizinische Wochenschrift (1946), 2021
Peripheral artery occlusive disease is a prevalent but underdiagnosed manifestation in patients with diabetes and also in patients with diabetic foot ulceration. There is insufficient awareness of its clinical manifestations, including intermittent claudication and critical limb ischemia and of its risk of adverse limb outcomes.

Macroangiopathy — Its Prevalence in Asymptomatic Diabetes

1973
Publisher Summary This chapter describes the prevalence of macroangiopathy in asymptomatic diabetes. Disease of large and medium-sized arteries has come to be accepted as a major consequence of diabetes mellitus, occurring particularly in middle aged and older patients, and accounting for much of the morbidity and mortality of maturity-onset ...

A Search for Macroangiopathy in Patients with Latent Diabetes

1973
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses macroangiopathy in patients with latent diabetes. In an experiment described in the chapter, the results of the initial diagnostic glucose tolerance tests performed on patients aged 9–17 at diagnosis were shown.

[Macroangiopathy in diabetes mellitus].

Zeitschrift fur die gesamte innere Medizin und ihre Grenzgebiete, 1993
Although there is no evidence of effectiveness of interventional trials concerning macroangiopathy in diabetes mellitus, the focus of primary prophylaxis is based on the treatment of risk factors and optimal adjustment of metabolic parameters. This should contain the prophylaxis of the diabetic foot (foot care, teaching, pressure bearing) in the neuro ...

Involvement of Glycation and Oxidative Stress in Diabetic Macroangiopathy

Diabetes, 1996
Under diabetic conditions, the Maillard reaction facilitates the production of reactive oxygen species, and the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase is decreased, resulting in a remarkable increase of oxidative stress.

Macroangiopathy in type II diabetes

Acta Endocrinologica, 1983
ABSTRACT. Macroangiopathy is the most important cause of mortality and morbidity in type II diabetes. The atherosclerotic process in diabetes is similar to that found in non-diabetic subjects, but the laesions are more extensive and the clinical manifestations are more common in diabetic subjects than in the non-diabetic population.

Therapie, 1998
The detection of early atherosclerosis, accelerated by the presence of diabetes mellitus, is of major importance for improving the prediction and the prevention of subsequent clinical events. Three markers of atherosclerosis can be detected non invasively: arterial wall thickening, coronary calcification and arterial wall stiffening.

[Mechanism of diabetic macroangiopathy].

Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2007
Diabetes is a strong risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Hyperglycemia at post-prandial as well as fasting state explains a part of the risk. Several disorders induced by hyperglycemia such as activation of PKC, increased glycosylation and oxidative stress have been proposed as the underlying mechanisms.
