Neuropathic pain management via repeated electroacupuncture. Abstract Background Existing remedial approaches for relieving neuropathic pain (NPP) are challenging and open the way for alternative therapeutic measures such as electroacupuncture (EA). The mechanism underlying the antinociceptive effects of repeated EA sessions, particularly concerning ...

Deprenyl, an old drug with new anticancer potential: Mini review [PDF]
The anticancer potential of monoamine oxidase (MAO) was observed in pre-clinical assays conducted with cell cultures and animals. L-Deprenyl (DEP) causes apoptosis in melanoma, leukemia and mammary cells. High-dose DEP has shown toxicity in mammary and pituitary cancers, as well as in monoblastic leukemia, in rats.

Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (MLR) were investigated as potential markers. A total of 3545 subjects were included in the analysis retrospectively. Adult men and women with impaired glucose metabolism were assessed. NLR and MLR may help assess inflammation in individuals with impaired glucose metabolism. Abstract

Iron role paradox in nerve degeneration and regeneration [PDF]
Iron accumulates in the neural tissue during peripheral nerve degeneration. Some studies have already been suggested that iron facilitates Wallerian degeneration (WD) events such as Schwann cell de-differentiation. On the other hand, intracellular iron levels remain elevated during nerve regeneration and gradually decrease.

Evaluating Performance of Machine Learning Models for Diabetic Sensorimotor Polyneuropathy Severity Classification using Biomechanical Signals during Gait [PDF]
Diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy (DSPN) is one of the prevalent forms of neuropathy affected by diabetic patients that involves alterations in biomechanical changes in human gait. In literature, for the last 50 years, researchers are trying to observe the biomechanical changes due to DSPN by studying muscle electromyography (EMG), and ground ...

Automatic detection of rare pathologies in fundus photographs using few-shot learning [PDF]
In the last decades, large datasets of fundus photographs have been collected in diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening networks. Through deep learning, these datasets were used to train automatic detectors for DR and a few other frequent pathologies, with the goal to automate screening.
