Optimization and image quality in CT studies: application of DRLs based on clinical indication

open access: yesDiscover Applied Sciences
The use of ionizing radiation in computed tomography (CT) has significantly enhanced diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making. However, optimizing CT protocols is crucial to balance the diagnostic benefits with potential radiation risks ...

DIAGNOSTIC REFERENCE LEVELS FOR CARDIAC CT ANGIOGRAPHY IN AUSTRALIA

open access: yesRadiation Protection Dosimetry, 2018
This study aims to assess patient radiation dose from cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) with the aim of proposing a national diagnostic reference levels (NDRLs) for CCTA procedures in Australia. A questionnaire was used to retrospectively gather baseline information related to CCTA scanning and patient parameters in CT centres across the ...

The need for national diagnostic reference levels: Entrance surface dose measurement in intraoral radiography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Background: Intraoral radiographies are the most frequent X-ray examinations in humans. According to International Commission on Radiation Protection (ICRP) recommendations, the selection of a diagnostic reference level (DRL) should be specific to a ...

Diagnostic reference levels for routine computed tomography angiography examinations: a systematic review

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine
Background This work aims to investigate existing methodologies that have been used to establish diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for common computed tomography angiography (CTA) examinations in adult patients by analyzing published national and local ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Patient doses in ct, dental cone beam ct and projection radiography in Finland, with emphasis on paediatric patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Diagnostic radiology represents the largest man-made contribution to population radiation doses in Europe. To be able to keep the diagnostic benefit versus radiation risk ratio as high as possible, it is important to understand the quantitative ...

Cost-effectiveness of diagnostic laparoscopy for assessing resectability in pancreatic and periampullary cancer.

open access: yes, 2015
Surgical resection is the only curative treatment for pancreatic and periampullary cancer, but many patients undergo unnecessary laparotomy because tumours can be understaged by computerised tomography (CT).

Monitoring neurointerventional radiation doses using dose-tracking software: implications for the establishment of local diagnostic reference levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objectives: There is potential for high radiation exposure during neurointerventional procedures. Increasing regulatory requirements mandate dose monitoring of patients and staff, and justification of high levels of radiation exposure.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.
