Phase diagram of magnetic polymers

open access: yes, 1999
We consider polymers made of magnetic monomers (Ising or Heisenberg-like) in a good solvent. These polymers are modeled as self-avoiding walks on a cubic lattice, and the ferromagnetic interaction between the spins carried by the monomers is short-ranged

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Diagramming the Topology of Technology and Architecture in the 21st Century

open access: yesJournal of Architectural Sciences and Applications
The research aims to address the existence of neoliberal policies in contemporary architectural production from an onto-political perspective. In Deleuze's ontology, the movement between the self and the other is established between the architect-subject

Phase Diagram of Li_xFePO_4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The phase diagram for LixFePO4 has been determined for different lithium concentrations and temperatures. The two low-temperature phases, heterosite and triphylite, have previously been shown to transform to a disordered solid solution at elevated ...

Phase diagram of Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with dimensional regularization

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the phase diagram on temperature-chemical potential plane in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with the dimensional regularization. While the structure of the resulting diagram shows resemblance to the one in the frequently used cutoff ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Diagrams support revision of prior belief in primary-school children

open access: yesFrontline Learning Research, 2017
The reluctance of children to revise their prior beliefs is a prominent phenomenon in the reasoning literature. One way to facilitate belief change is offering explanations, and this study examined whether highlighting (counter)evidence with diagrams ...

Synchronization of Kuramoto Oscillators on Knots

open access: yes, 2013
A knot is a circle embedded in the space. Projecting a knot on a plane, we obtain a diagram which is known as the knot diagram. The vertices of the diagram, where the curved lines are crossed, can be considered as sites occupied by oscillators.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The semiotics of models

open access: yesSign Systems Studies, 2018
The paper sheds light on the concept of model in ordinary language and in scientific discourse from the perspective of C. S. Peirce’s semiotics. It proposes a general Peircean framework for the definition of models of all kinds, including mental models ...
