Diarrheagenic E. coli (DEC) has been implicated in foodborne outbreaks worldwide and have been associated with childhood stunting in the absence of diarrhoea. Infection is extraordinarily common, but the routes of transmission have not been determined.

Primary fecal culture used as template for PCR detection of diarrheagenic E. coli virulence factors
Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2002The PCR technique applied to primary fecal cultures (PFC-PCR) was compared to the usual method employing isolated colonies (IC-PCR) in order to assess its sensitivity in the detection of virulence markers of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli in fecal samples obtained from children with diarrhea.

Molecular Characterization of Diarrheagenic E. Coli Isolated From Newly Born Calves and Humans
Alexandria Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2019The current study was conducted to study the molecular characterization of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli in neonatal calves and human. A total of 100 faecal samples were collected from diarrheic calves up to 3-months old. Also, 100 stool specimens were gathered from diarrheic humans during the period between April and July, 2016. Samples were screened

Many methods are available for the detection and isolation of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli pathotypes (DEPs). A versatile protocol is one that will enable detection from any source material ranging from fecal samples, swabs, and foods or food products that have been processed in a stomacher.

Long polar fimbriae (LPF) are related to type I fimbriae in genetic organization and were first identified in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. Four lpfA genetic variants designated lpfA(O157/OI-141), lpfA(O157/OI-154), lpfA(O26) and lpfA(O113) have been identified in Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC). In this study, PCR was employed

Virulence and antimicrobial resistance patterns of diarrheagenic E. coli isolated from beef samples
Indian Journal of Veterinary Research (The)The study reports multidrug-resistant diarrheagenic E. coli isolated from 50 randomly collected beef samples from various retail shops in and around Puducherry. E. coli was detected in 23 samples and these isolates were confirmed by PCR targeting the uidA gene. Molecular detection of three DEC (Diarrheagenic E.
