Photocurrent Generation of Diarylethene Polymers

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2005
ABSTRACT The combination of photochromism and electrical properties in diarylethene (DA) polymers were investigated. Photoswitching function could be introduced into a polymer by incorporating 2,3-bis(2-methylbenzo[b]thiophene-3-yl)hexafluorocyclopentene (BTF) unit plus p-phenylene vinylene (PPV) unit alternatively.

Electrochromism of photochromic diarylethene derivative

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
The diarylethene may undergo photochemical ring-closing reaction and both photochemical and electrochemical ring-opening reaction. Irradiation of the open form with UV light results in essentially quantitative photocyclization to the deeply colored form.

Photochromism of Diarylethene Zinc Complexes

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2005
ABSTRACT Zinc complexes composed of bidentate 1,2-bis(2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene ( 1a ) or monodentate 1-(2-methyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-2-(2-methyl-5-(4-pyridyl)-3-thienyl) perfluorocyclopentene ( 2a ) photochromic ligands and Zn(hfac)2 or ZnCl2 were prepared and their photochromic properties were studied.

Near-Infrared Photochromic Diarylethene Iridium (III) Complex

Organic Letters, 2008
A novel iridium complex, (Py-BTE)(2)Ir(acac), coordinating to the photochromic diarylethene derivative is prepared. This complex showed excellent near-infrared photochromic behaviors accompanied by efficient quenching of phosphorescence emission.

Asymmetric Photocyclization of Diarylethene Derivatives

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1997
Diarylethene derivatives, which have an optically active l- or d-menthyl group at the 2-position of benzo[b]thiophene ring, were synthesized. Irradiation with 450 nm light in solution led to the formation of diastereomer pairs of the closed-ring forms. The product ratio of the diastereomers was dependent on solvent polarity and temperature. In slightly

Diarylethene as a photoswitching unit

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology C: Photochemistry Reviews, 2004
Photochromic compounds reversibly change not only the absorption spectra but also their geometrical and electronic structures. The molecular structure changes induce physical property changes of the molecules such as fluorescence, refractive index, polarizability, electrical conductivity, and magnetism.

Diarylethenes in Astrophysics: From Materials to Devices

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 2005
ABSTRACT The photochromic properties of transparent/opaque transition and the change of the refractive index (Δn) have been exploited to develop devices for astronomical spectrographs, both as focal plane masks and as dispersive elements (volume phase holographic gratings, VPHGs), respectively.

Photochromism of a diarylethene dimer

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
A fluorene derivative having two diarylethene units at the 9,9'-positions was synthesized, and the photochromic behavior was examined in solution. Upon irradiation with UV (240nm), the solution of the diarylethene dimer turned yellow. It can returned to ring-open form upon irradiation with visible light (405nm).

Turn-On Mode Fluorescent Diarylethenes

2017
Turn-on mode highly fluorescent photochromic chromophores, which are initially non-luminous under irradiation with visible light but activated to emit fluorescence upon irradiation with UV light, have been developed. The chromophores are sulfone derivatives of 1,2-bis(2-alkyl-1-benzothiophen-3-yl)perfluorocyclopentene.
