Electrochemical Cyclization/Cycloreversion Reactions of Diarylethenes
Organic Letters, 2005[reaction: see text]. Electrochemical oxidation of diarylethene derivatives induced cyclization or cycloreversion reactions. The reaction mechanism was studied with CV, absorption spectra, and theoretical calculation.

Design of Mesomorphic Diarylethene-Based Photochromes
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2004The effects of the molecular variation of diarylethenes on the mesomorphic, photochromic, and fluorescence properties have been investigated, and dramatic changes in the fluorescence, photochromic, and liquid crystal behavior were observed.

Photochromism of diarylethenes in nanolayers of a single crystal
Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 20031,2-Bis(2-methyl-5-pentafluorophenyl-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene (1a) and 1,2-bis(2-ethyl-5-phenyl-3-thienyl)-perfluorocyclopentene (2a) were found to form a 1:1 stoichiometric co-crystal. The crystal is composed of alternate nanolayers of 1a and 2a molecular sheets.

Hybrid Organic–Inorganic Photon-Powered Actuators Based on Aligned Diarylethene Nanocrystals
Chemistry of Materials, 2019When photochromic molecules are organized in a crystal, the small-scale forces generated by molecular photoisomerization events can combine together to generate work on micro- or macroscopic length scales.
