Relationship between abnormal P-wave terminal force in lead V1 and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in hypertensive patients: the LIFE study

open access: yesBlood Pressure, 2017
Background: Abnormal P-wave terminal force in lead V1 (PTF-V1) is an ECG marker of increased left atrial (LA) volume, elevated LA filling pressures and/or LA systolic dysfunction.

Synergistic Effect of Gradient Conductivity and Gradient Microstructures Enabled Ultrasensitive and Ultrabroad Linear Flexible Tactile Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A design of double gradient effect is proposed to resolve the contradictory optimization on sensitivity and linearity of piezoresistive tactile sensors. The ultrawide linearity is realized by the sequential trigger of pressure‐induced gradient conductivity‐enabled linear current owing to the gradient microstructures.

Aortic annulus dimension assessment by computed tomography for transcatheter aortic valve implantation: differences between systole and diastole [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Accurate assessment of aortic annular dimensions is essential for successful transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Annular dimensions are conventionally measured in mid-systole by multidetector computed tomography (MDCT), echocardiography and ...

Ca2+/calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase II and protein kinase G independently contribute to acutely enhance myocardial compliance with stretch

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
The heart constantly adapts to acute hemodynamic load by increasing contractility and stretch‐induced compliance (SIC). The latter involves titin phosphorylation, notably by cGMP‐dependent protein kinase (PKG).

Bioinspired Passive Flow Routing to Mitigate Thrombosis in Prosthetic Heart Valves and Cardiovascular Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bioinspired passive flow routing mitigates thrombosis in cardiovascular devices by redirecting a small fraction of forward flow into stagnation‐prone regions. Inspired by avian alula and aircraft slat mechanisms, strategically placed routing channels restore washout around mechanical heart valves, reducing low‐shear exposure by four orders of magnitude

A modified Holzapfel-Ogden law for a residually stressed finite strain model of the human left ventricle in diastole [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this work, we introduce a modified Holzapfel-Ogden hyperelastic constitutive model for ventricular myocardium that accounts for residual stresses, and we investigate the effects of residual stresses in diastole using a magnetic resonance imaging ...

Effect of hypertrophy on left ventricular diastolic function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesHeart International, 2006
Background. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is characterized by asymmetric LV hypertrophy (LVH) and impairment in diastolic function. We assess the relationship between LVH and invasive indexes of diastolic function. Methods.
