Calpain Activator Dibucaine Induces Platelet Apoptosis
Calcium-dependent calpains are a family of cysteine proteases that have been demonstrated to play key roles in both platelet glycoprotein Ibα shedding and platelet activation and altered calpain activity is associated with thrombotic thrombocytopenic ...

Local anesthetics and pressure: a comparison of dibucaine binding to lipid monolayers and bilayers
The binding of the local anesthetic dibucaine to monolayers composed of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine was studied with a Langmuir trough at pH 5.5 (22 degrees C, 0.1 M NaCl).

The tertiary amine local anesthetic dibucaine binds to the membrane skeletal protein spectrin
The quinoline-based tertiary amine dibucaine has been shown to bind the membrane skeletal protein spectrin with a dissociation constant of 3.5×10−5 M at 25°C.

Inhibition of cytochrome oxidase by dibucaine
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1990Dibucaine-HCl inhibited mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase activity in intact mitochondria with 50% inhibition occurring at 1.1 mM dibucaine-HCl. Dibucaine-HCl did not prevent the reduction of cytochrome oxidase by ascorbate plus N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride (TMPD) when measured at 604 nm but prevented 50% of the absorbance ...

The intrathecal spread of hyperbaric dibucaine in adolescents
Journal of Anesthesia, 1993We investigated the spread of spinal anesthesia with hyperbaric dibucaine in 20 adolescents aged 9-18 yr and 20 adults aged 23-53 yr. No significant difference was found between the two groups with regard to height, whereas a statistical significant was found between the two groups with regard to weight.

Fatal Accidental Dibucaine Poisoning in Children
Annals of Emergency Medicine, 1996Dibucaine is a potent amide anesthetic available in over-the-counter preparations. Compared with lidocaine, substantially lower doses of dibucaine may result in seizures, dysrhythmias, and death. We present three fatal cases of accidental dibucaine ingestion in children and discuss the toxicity, treatment, and prevention of such ingestions.
