Rearing Improvements for the German Cockroach (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae)
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1994Known-age cohorts of three strains of German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.), were mass-reared by establishing one rearing container each week (so that cockroaches within a container would be of known age). An average of 330-443 females was placed in oviposition units within these rearing containers.

The cockroach Blattella germanica hosts symbiotic bacteria in both the fat body and the ovary. The transmission of symbionts from one generation to the next is of the transovarial type. In 2nd-instar nymphs, bacteria leave the intraovaric bacteriocytes and reach the space between the follicular epithelium and the oocyte.

Biology of Symploce pallens (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae).
Journal of economic entomology, 2010Here, we describe the biology of a relatively new pest cockroach species in Southeast Asia, Symploce pallens (Stephens) (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae). S. pallens collected from Penang Island, Malaysia, were used for the biological parameter studies and were observed for molting and reproduction events.

Histology and physiology of the mandibular glands in Dictyoptera
Journal of Entomology Series A, General Entomology, 1972SYNOPSIS An account is given of the mandibular glands in five families of Mantodea and in two families of Blattodea. The enzyme content of the gland secretion of Sphodromantis lineola is analysed, and the function of the secretion discussed.

A comparative study of the hypopharynx in Dictyoptera (Insecta)
Zoologischer Anzeiger - A Journal of Comparative Zoology, 2013Abstract The exoskeletal morphology of the hypopharynx is documented for and compared between nine species of Dictyoptera that represent most of its principal lineages (seven cockroaches, one mantodean, and the ‘basal’ termite Mastotermes darwiniensis ).

The residual repellency of N,N-diethylphenylacetamide (DEPA) was studied against American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (L.); German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.); and brownbanded cockroach, Supella longipalpa (F.) at various concentrations.

Environmental Entomology, 2015
The Asian cockroach, Blattella asahinai Mizukubo, first introduced to Florida in 1986, has been spreading throughout the southeastern United States. Populations can reach extremely high densities and cause damage to crops as well as become a nuisance in residential settings.

Phylogenetic Status, Distribution, and Biogeography of Cryptocercus (Dictyoptera: Cryptocercidae)
Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1999Recent morphological studies on Blattaria, as well as molecular data on both these insects and their fat body bacterial endosymbionts, do not agree with Grandcolas's phylogenetic placement of Cryptocercus deep within the Polyphaginae [Grandcolas, P. 1999. Systematics, Endosymbiosis, and Biogeography of Cryptocercus clevelandi and C.

A Hemocoelic Candida Parasite of the American Cockroach (Dictyoptera: Blattidae)
Journal of Economic Entomology, 1987An infection by a yeast in a colony of American cockroaches, Periplaneta americana (L.), causes extreme paralysis that leads to death. Examination of hemolymph revealed the presence of ellipsoidal yeast cells that have been identified as a new Candida species.

Thysanoptera and Dictyoptera, Suborder Blattaria
1984The order Thysanoptera (meaning fringe-winged), known as thrips, comprise about 5000 species with a worldwide distribution. Although mainly phytophagous, some species are predatory on other arthropods and others can occasionally cause lesions on man’s skin.
