Comparative genomics of the social amoebae Dictyostelium discoideum and Dictyostelium purpureum [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2011
Abstract Background The social amoebae (Dictyostelia) are a diverse group of Amoebozoa that achieve multicellularity by aggregation and undergo morphogenesis into fruiting bodies with terminally differentiated spores and stalk cells.

Conserved valproic-acid-induced lipid droplet formation in Dictyostelium and human hepatocytes identifies structurally active compounds

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2012
SUMMARY Lipid droplet formation and subsequent steatosis (the abnormal retention of lipids within a cell) has been reported to contribute to hepatotoxicity and is an adverse effect of many pharmacological agents including the antiepileptic drug valproic ...

Dictyostelium cells migrate similarly on surfaces of varying chemical composition. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
During cell migration, cell-substrate binding is required for pseudopod anchoring to move the cell forward, yet the interactions with the substrate must be sufficiently weak to allow parts of the cell to de-adhere in a controlled manner during typical ...

Actin dynamics controlled by IqgC, a RasGAP at the crossroads between the IQGAP and fungal GAP1 families

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 268-278, February 2026.
IqgC is a RasGAP from Dictyostelium discoideum. IqgC binds RasG via its RasGAP domain and deactivates it on macroendocytic cups, thereby suppressing the uptake of fluid and particles. IqgC has a positive effect on cell‐substratum adhesion, and its RGCt domain is required for recruitment to ventral foci.

Extracellular signaling in Dictyostelium

open access: yesThe International Journal of Developmental Biology, 2019
In the last few decades, we have learned a considerable amount about how eukaryotic cells communicate with each other, and what it is the cells are telling each other. The simplicity of Dictyostelium discoideum, and the wide variety of available tools to study this organism, makes it the equivalent of a hydrogen atom for cell and developmental biology.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Dictyostelium intermedium

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2021
Dictyostelium intermedium is a member of dictyostelids, the unicellular eukaryotes with a unique life cycle, including a social cycle. Despite the high diversity of dictyostelids, only five species' complete mitochondrial genome sequences were reported ...

RNA interference in J774 macrophages reveals a role for coronin 1 in mycobacterial trafficking but not in actin-dependent processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Macrophages are crucial for innate immunity, apoptosis, and tissue remodeling, processes that rely on the capacity of macrophages to internalize and process cargo through phagocytosis.
