A model of the diel vertical migration of zooplankton based on euphausiids [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Marine Research, 1991
A detailed model of the diel vertical migration of euphausiids, particularly that of Meganyctiphanes norvegica adults in the northwestern Mediterranean Sea, is presented. It simulates the temporal and vertical variation of the euphausiid biomass over the diel cycle in the water column from 0 to 700 m depth.

Control Mechanisms of Diel Vertical Migration: Theoretical Assumptions

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2001
We explore control mechanisms underlying the vertical migration of zooplankton in the water column under the predator-avoidance hypothesis. Two groups of assumptions in which the organisms are assumed to migrate vertically in order to minimize realized or effective predation pressure (type-I) and to minimize changes in realized or effective predation ...

Diel vertical migration of sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria)

Fisheries Oceanography, 2019
AbstractTo investigate their diel vertical migration (DVM), 599 sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) were implanted with electronic archival tags in the Gulf of Alaska, Aleutian Islands, and the eastern Bering Sea. Of these tags, 98 were recovered with usable depth data (7,852,773 recordings representing 81,233 days) that we used to identify DVM and to ...

The impact of diel vertical migration of Daphnia on phytoplankton dynamics

Oecologia, 2005
Diel vertical migration (DVM) of large zooplankton is a very common phenomenon in the pelagic zone of lakes and oceans. Although the underlying mechanisms of DVM are well understood, we lack experimental studies on the consequences of this behaviour for the zooplankton's food resource-the phytoplankton.
