Breakdown characteristics in dielectric-confined microcavity discharge of plate electrodes

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2023
Abstract Breakdown characteristics in dielectric-confined microcavity discharge of plate-to-plate electrodes under DC voltage are investigated in this paper. Experimental and particle-in-cell/Monte Carlo code simulated results show that the breakdown characteristic curve (the relation between the breakdown voltage V br ...

Dielectric breakdown and discharge energy on printed circuit board

Proceedings of the 2004 IEEE International Conference on Solid Dielectrics, 2004. ICSD 2004., 2004
An investigation of the influences of the environmental factors on breakdown strengths, discharge energy, density of electric field associated with discharge occurring on surface printed circuit board were discussed. The PD characteristics and phenomena in an air cavity on the printed circuit board were also discussed. The environmental factors include

Simulation of breakdown in dielectric barrier discharges at atmospheric pressure

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2004
Breakdown at atmospheric pressure in a nitrogen discharge is examined using analytic calculations and numerical solutions of the fluid equations and the Boltzmann equation. The fully analytic capacitor model is set up by dividing the discharge 'capacitor' into N small capacitors and letting them break down one at a time.

Improving the Charge/Discharge Efficiency and Dielectric Breakdown in High Temperature Polymer Dielectrics

2018 IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP), 2018
Dielectric polymers which can operate at high temperature (> 150 °C) and high electric fields with high performance such as high charge/discharge efficiency and dielectric strength are required for many capacitor applications including energy storage and electric insulators.

Some aspects of the breakdown of dielectric fluids by internal discharges

Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1969, 1969
Ionization under high electric stresses may occur in voids located in liquid hydrocarbon impregnated paper or plastic tape composite dielectrics, with evolution of hydrocarbons. If these active (or nascent) gaseous breakdown products are not swiftly re-absorbed, the degradation site may grow and the process become self-accelerating to destruction ...

Investigation of Discharge Channel Elongation under Thermal Dielectric Breakdown

Russian Physics Journal, 2003
A mathematical model of the expansion of a discharge channel due to a growing electrothermal instability in a solid dielectric material under constant voltage is considered. The model describes temperature dynamics, electric field strength, discharge density, and melting of the dielectric.

Study on the breakdown process in dielectric barrier discharge with a magnetohydrodynamic method

Physica Scripta, 1996
With the magnetohydrodynamic method, the breakdown process in a microdischarge of the Dielectric Barrier Discharge is analyzed. A theoretical model is established to simulate a microdischarge on the basis of the properties of the microdischarge and the effect of the dielectric.

Pre-breakdown phase of coplanar dielectric barrier discharge in helium

The European Physical Journal Applied Physics, 2016
Coplanar barrier discharge in single-pair electrode configuration was used to study the formation of helium diffuse mode discharge. Transition from Townsend avalanching to the cathode and anode directed ionization waves was documented by high-speed camera imaging.

Aspects of dielectric breakdown preceded by discharges

Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1974, 1974
The point-plane gap has been widely used in studies of discharges and breakdowns of gases, liquids and solids (the last including treeing tests). For this geometry, the ratio of maximum to average electric stress is calculable from E max /E av = 2d/[r ln(1 + 4d/r)] (1) where r is the point radius and d is the distance of point to plane.

Dielectric breakdown and partial discharge in BaTiO/sub 3/ ceramics

Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Conduction and Breakdown in Solid Dielectrics, 2003
The possibility of a correlation between partial discharge characteristics, breakdown strength, and microstructure of the ferroelectric ceramics is investigated. Breakdown field and partial discharge inception field were measured for pure BaTiO/sub 3/ ceramics with different pore size distributions.
