Characteristics of impurity-dependent breakdown in helium dielectric barrier discharge jets

2011 Abstracts IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science, 2011
Multiple current pulses during breakdown (or so-called pseudoglow discharge1) in floating-electrode dielectric barrier discharge jets (DBD jets) were studied in this work. Industrial grade helium (purity 99.995 %) and the helium with impurity were employed for the DBD jet generation.

Breakdown voltage for surface dielectric barrier discharge ignition in atmospheric air

Physics of Plasmas, 2017
Breakdown voltage for surface dielectric barrier discharge ignition in atmospheric air has been measured for different parameters of the dielectric barrier, exposed electrode mounting, and supply voltage frequency. The analytical model of the discharge onset has been developed.

Breakdown mechanism of the charged solid dielectric during short circuit discharge

[1991] Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Properties and Applications of Dielectric Materials, 2002
The phenomenon of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) breakdown during short circuit discharge is studied. A theoretical model for detrapping by collisional ionization is proposed for interpretation of the breakdown mechanism. The coefficient for detrapping by collisional ionization and the relation between it and the velocity of the discharging are ...

Discharge energy and dielectric breakdown of gamma-ray irradiated polybytylene naphthalate

Proceedings of the 2004 IEEE International Conference on Solid Dielectrics, 2004. ICSD 2004., 2004
This paper presents results obtained from research carried out with the purpose of dielectric breakdown of gamma ray irradiated polybutylene naphthalate under low pressure conditions. The total dose of gamma-ray irradiation effects on the discharge energy have been studied.

Study on breakdown characteristics of a low-pressure dielectric barrier discharge

Journal of Plasma Physics, 2007
AbstractThe breakdown characteristics of a low-frequency dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) at low pressure are investigated experimentally in He, Ne and Ar. The current waveform of this DBD, a series of pulses, is caused by the results of the electron avalanches under the action of the applied field and the quenching effect of the wall-charge field on

Reduced breakdown delay in high power microwave dielectric window discharges

2013 Abstracts IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS), 2013
Summary form only given. Development of high power microwave (HPM) distributed discharge limiters relies critically on minimizing the delay time between HPM incidence and diffuse plasma creation. We present a range of pulsed plasma experiments conducted in neon, argon, helium, and mixtures of these gases, from 50-760 torr.

Characteristics of Precursor-Dependent Breakdown in Helium Dielectric Barrier Discharge Jet

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2012
The generation of excited species in dielectric barrier discharge jets (DBD jets) when a dielectric substrate is present is highly time dependent and complex, sensitive to precursor addition and power. Both the DBD jets fed with pure helium (He DBD jet) and helium/methyl methacrylate (He/MMA DBD jet) show the characteristics of multiple short-duration (
