Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

Bonding of Acrylic Pressure‐Sensitive Adhesives and Silicone Elastomers via Surfactant‐Assisted Plasma Activation for Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A simple strategy is presented for bonding acrylic PSAs and silicone elastomers by curing surfactant‐doped Ecoflex on oxygen‐plasma‐treated VHB. The interface reaches a maximum strength of 1.6 N/mm (over 20 times that of the control) while retaining material compliance.

Light Switchable Ionic Conductivity of Arylazopyrazole Modified Polysiloxanes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present a polysiloxane functionalized with a novel arylazopyrazole dye that undergoes reversible photoisomerization. Upon lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide addition and UV irradiation, the polymer exhibits a shift in tan(d) toward higher frequencies and enhanced ionic conductivity.

Wearable wireless tactile display for virtual interactions with soft bodies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We describe here a wearable, wireless, compact, and lightweight tactile display, able to mechanically stimulate the fingertip of users, so as to simulate contact with soft bodies in virtual environments.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Advancing soft robotics: recent progress in dielectric elastomer and fluid actuators

open access: yesnpj Robotics
Soft robots offer an alternative to traditional rigid-bodied counterparts due to their mechanical compliance, adaptability, and enhanced safety. Particularly, soft dielectric-based actuators (i.e., dielectric elastomer and fluid actuators) enable ...
