Carnosinase-1 Knock-Out Reduces Kidney Fibrosis in Type-1 Diabetic Mice on High Fat Diet
Carnosine and anserine supplementation markedLy reduce diabetic nephropathy in rodents. The mode of nephroprotective action of both dipeptides in diabetes, via local protection or improved systemic glucose homeostasis, is uncertain.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Anti-diabetic effects of emodin involved in the activation of PPAR gamma on high-fat diet-fed and low dose of streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice [PDF]
Rheum palmatum unit has been widely applied in the clinical treatment of diabetes mellitus It has been found that emodin as the major bioactive component of R palmatum L exhibits the competency to activate peroxisomal proliferator-activated receptor ...

Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

BALANCING THE DIABETIC DIET [PDF]
The present interest in properly balancing the diabetic diet, stimulated particularly by the researches of Shaffer, 1 Newburgh and Marsh, 2 Woodyatt, 3 Wilder 4 and others, has led to efforts to work out a simple method of determining the food proportions required by any diabetic patient.
