Skeletal muscle composition in dietary obesity-susceptible and dietary obesity-resistant rats

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1992
The intent of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between susceptibility to high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity and skeletal muscle fiber type. Forty-four adult male Wistar rats were given ad libitum access to a HFD (60% of calories from fat) for 4 wk.

Sterol Composition of Freshwater Algivorous Ciliates Does Not Resemble Dietary Composition

Microbial Ecology, 2006
Algivorous ciliates represent an important link in freshwater food webs, as they transfer energy and biochemical matter from their algal prey to mesozooplankton predators. However, it is still unknown how dietary composition influences the biochemical composition of ciliates.

Composition of Corn Hull Dietary Fiber

Starch - Stärke, 1994
AbstractThe corn hull dietary fiber was decomposed into their components such as cellulose, hemicellulose‐A, ‐B, ‐C, ‐other and lignin by the Siegel method, and their contents were 16%, 1%, 57%, 14% and 2%, respectivity. The components of ordinary corn fiber were insoluble in water, but several decomposed fractions were able to dissolved.

Body composition and dietary intake in neoplastic disease

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1981
Changes in body composition in 37 cancer patients were studied over a period of 6 months. Initially, the patients were divided into two groups: those who lost body weight (over 10%) and those who maintained or gained body weight before the study. Analysis of body composition indicated that patients who lost body weight has caloric and protein intakes ...

Dietary Composition and Renal Function in Healthy Subjects

Nephron, 1987
Increments in dietary protein intake can increase glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in humans, and the glomerular hyperfiltration induced by high protein intake has been incriminated in the progression of glomerulosclerosis related to age and a number of renal diseases.

Dietary fat composition alters pulmonary function in pigs

Nutrition, 2002
We investigated the effect of various dietary fats on pulmonary surfactant composition and lung function changes that occur before and after endotoxin infusion in pigs.Eighteen pigs were assigned to three groups (n = 6 per group) to receive a diet of protein (20% of calories), carbohydrate (20% of calories), and fat (40% of calories).

Dietary fat composition and cardiovascular disease

Food Science <html_ent glyph="@amp;" ascii="&"/> Technology Bulletin: Functional Foods, 2006
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), which includes coronary heart disease and stroke, remains the major killer in the EU, being responsible for 42% of total mortality. The amount and composition of dietary fat is arguably the most important dietary factor contributing to disease risk.

Composition of fruit, vegetable and cereal dietary fibre

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1983
AbstractA sequential extraction of freeze‐dried bean, cabbage, lettuce, tomato, peach, pumpkin, sweet potato, onion, pear, wheat bran, lucerne, clover and ryegrass with water, oxalate and sodium hydroxide (before and after delignification) was carried out.The fruits and vegetables gave a higher yield of water and oxalate soluble polymers than wheat ...
