Causal association of dietary factors with five common cancers: univariate and multivariate Mendelian randomization studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundDaily dietary habits are closely related to human health, and long-term unhealthy dietary intake, such as excessive consumption of alcohol and pickled foods, may promote the development of cancers.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Within-guild dietary discrimination from 3-D textural analysis of tooth microwear in insectivorous mammals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Resource exploitation and competition for food are important selective pressures in animal evolution. A number of recent investigations have focused on linkages between diversification, trophic morphology and diet in bats, partly because their roosting ...

The effect of maternal employment on children's dietary habits, physical activity, and sedentary behaviour [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Maternal employment could affect children in two ways: reducing time on household activities centred on children’s diet, physical activity and sedentary behaviour; and increasing family income which may change food habits, facilitate organized physical ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Metastatic niche shaped by host factors influences disseminated cancer cell fate

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metastasis is shaped not only by cancer cells but also by the environments they encounter. This review explores how factors such as aging, diet, the microbiome, lifestyle, and environmental exposures remodel organ‐specific niches in the lung, liver, bone, and brain, influencing where metastatic cells survive, remain dormant, or grow, and ultimately ...

A review of the use of information and communication technologies for dietary assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Presently used dietary-assessment methods often present difficulties for researchers and respondents, and misreporting errors are common. Methods using information and communication technologies (ICT) may improve quality and accuracy.

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

Effects of Add‐On Icosapent Ethyl With Standard Treatment on Functional Outcomes and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ischemic stroke, a major cause of mortality and long‐term disability, results from the abrupt cessation of cerebral blood flow due to vascular occlusion or rupture. Icosapent Ethyl (EPA‐EE), approved for hypertriglyceridemia, has anti‐inflammatory and antithrombotic properties that may lessen ischemic damage.
