Diethylhexyl phthalate impairs insulin binding and glucose oxidation in Chang liver cells
Toxicology in Vitro, 2007The present study examined the dose-dependent effects of diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) on insulin receptor concentration and glucose oxidation in Chang liver cells. Chang liver cells (5 x 10(5) cells) were exposed to different concentrations (0, 50, 100, 200 and 400 microM) of DEHP for 24h.

Five‐day storage of platelets in a non‐diethylhexyl phthalate‐plasticized container
Transfusion, 1992A non‐diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP)‐plasticized blood bag for 5‐day storage of random‐donor platelet concentrates has been developed. The plastic bag is composed of polyvinylchloride plastic with a butyryl trihexyl citrate plasticizer. The suitability of this plastic for the storage of platelet concentrates for use in clinical transfusion practice was ...

The release of diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) from flexible polyvinyl chloride containers into intravenous cyclosporine solutions was studied. Intravenous cyclosporine solution or solutions containing the vehicle Cremophor EL and alcohol in dextrose were prepared in an all-glass system and stored in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) bags.

Etoposide intravenous solution is associated with leaching of diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) from bags and tubings made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Recent evidence suggests that this may be more substantial than previously found. Since DEHP is potentially hepatotoxic and carcinogenic, it is preferable to prepare and administer etopo-side bags and ...

Leaching of diethylhexyl phthalate from PVC bags into intravenous teniposide solution
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1994Abstract The stability of teniposide in various diluents and polyvinyl chloride bags was determined, and the extent of leaching of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) from PVC bags caused by the teniposide formulation was measured. No significant drug loss was observed during simulated infusions ( n = 4) for 1 h using PVC infusion bags and ...

Mechanisms underlying the anti-androgenic effects of diethylhexyl phthalate in fetal rat testis
Toxicology, 2006Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) is widely used as a plasticizer in consumer products and is known to disturb the development of the male reproductive system in rats. The mechanisms by which DEHP exerts these effects are not yet fully elucidated, though some of the effects are related to reduced fetal testosterone production.

Phthalate esters are found in a wide variety of consumer and food packing products. Hence there is widespread exposure of the human population to these chemicals. Some of the phthalate esters are known to be toxic to the developing male reproductive system.

Investigations on the mechanism of the hypocholesterolemic action of diethylhexyl phthalate in rats
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1986The plasticizer di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), used widely in the manufacture of food packages and medical plastic devices, depressed serum cholesterol (40%) and proliferated hepatic mitochondria (100%) when administered in the diet (2%, w/w) to the rat.

Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) is an estrogen‐like compound widely used as a commercial plasticizer and present in medical devices, tubing, food containers and packaging. It is considered an endocrine disruptor and studies on experimental animals showed that exposure to DEHP can alter the function of several organs including liver, kidneys, lungs and ...
