Differential effect of cyclooxygenase inhibitors on absorptive hyperemia
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1985To test whether the hydrolytic products of digestion could stimulate vasoactive prostaglandin synthesis in the intestine, the muscularis and mucosa of the rat jejunum were suffused with a bicarbonate-buffered Ringer vehicle containing cyclooxygenase inhibitors (meclofenamate or indomethacin; 3 X 10(-5) M).

Differential Absorption of Purine Nucleotides, Nucleosides and Bases
1980Substantial contributions to our knowledge of purine metabolism and the origin and elimination of uric acid, have been made from studies in man and animals. Studies early in the century1 established that the body could be sustained on a diet free of purine (endogenous metabolism) and the role of dietary (exogenous) purine in the aetiology of the gouty ...

Expression of Digestive and Absorptive Function in Differentiating Enterocytes
Annual Review of Physiology, 1985The intestinal epithelium is a labile tissue capable of changing its properties rapidly in response to alterations in its immediate environment. These changes have been classified recently according to whether they take place in a con tinuous or discontinuous manner.

Differential absorption spectrometer for pulsed bremsstrahlung
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1993We describe a differential absorption spectrometer that measures the energy spectrum (from 20 to 800 keV) of flash x rays whose intensity precludes pulse-height analysis methods. The spectrometer uses individually calibrated thermoluminescent dosimeters, each inside its own spherical absorber, to accommodate isotropic radiation from pulsed ...

Water Vapor Differential Absorption Lidar
2021Water vapor is one of the fundamental thermodynamic variables that define the state of the atmosphere. It is highly variable in space and time and influences many important processes related to weather and climate. For more than two decades the importance of water vapor profiling has been underscored by the research and operational weather communities.

Application of differential absorption in infrared spectroscopy
Vibrational Spectroscopy, 1997Abstract The use of field intensity and differential absorptivity is demonstrated. The peak position in attenuated total reflection (ATR) is examined using differential absorptivity. It is shown that both electric field and penetration depth combine to determine the peak position in ATR. The absorptivities for the electric field orientations parallel

Differential and Additive Absorption Spectrometry
1966In conventional quantitative determinations of absorption spectra, two cuvettes are used. One, the ‘sample’ cuvette, contains a solution; the other, the ‘blank’ or ‘reference’ cuvette, contains the uncontaminated solvent. The blank compensates for any slight light absorption by the solvent, which has been made as transparent as possible, at least in ...

DIFFERENTIAL ABSORPTION OF PLANT STEROLS IN THE DOG
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry and Physiology, 1962Eight adult female dogs (8 to 10 kg) with thoracic duct fistula were fed 5 to 10% solutions of mixed plant sterols in oleic acid, corn oil, or butter. The lymph, which flowed at a rate of 20 to 50 ml per hour, was drained for 18 to 26 hours. Each 2-hour collection was analyzed separately for cholesterol and plant sterols.

A differential absorption spectrometer for the infra-red
Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1961A method is described of measuring the small change in absorption coefficient due to the introduction of an impurity into a semiconductor. A chopped monochromatic beam of infra-red radiation is passed alternately through the doped and undoped halves of a compound specimen, and the resulting modulation measured.
