The causal differential scattering approach to calculating the effective properties of random composite materials with a particle size distribution

open access: yes, 2009
An implementation of the Causal Differential Method (CDM) for modelling the effective properties of a random two-phase composite material is presented. Such materials are commonly used as ultrasonic transducer matching layersor backing layers. The method

Differential Phase Encoded Plug-and-Play Measurement-Device-Independent Quantum Key Distribution

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Quantum Engineering
Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) enhances security by removing vulnerabilities associated with detector side channels. Real-world implementations ofMDI-QKD face practical challenges, such as channel asymmetry and physical

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

On the viscosity solutions of a stochastic differential utility problem [PDF]

open access: yes
We prove existence, uniqueness and gradient estimates of stochastic differential utility as a solution of the Cauchy problem for degenerate nonlinear partial differential equation.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Generalized Collocation Method for Integro-Differential Equations in an Exceptional Case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
© 2018, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. We study a linear integro-differential equation with a coefficient that has finite-order zeros. To solve the equation approximately in a distribution space, we suggest and substantiate a generalized collocation method ...

Calculation of Differential Entropy for a Mixed Gaussian Distribution

open access: yesEntropy, 2008
In this work, an analytical expression is developed for the differential entropy of a mixed Gaussian distribution. One of the terms is given by a tabulated function of the ratio of the distribution parameters.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
